What is Dalacin 2% Vaginal Cream?

Dalacin 2% Vaginal Cream is an antibiotic medication used to treat bacterial infections in the vagina. It comes in the form of a gel that you apply directly inside the vagina. The active ingredient, clindamycin phosphate, works by stopping the growth of bacteria that cause infections. This medication is specifically designed to treat bacterial vaginosis, a common vaginal infection.

What is Dalacin 2% Vaginal Cream used for?

Dalacin 2% Vaginal Cream is primarily used to treat bacterial vaginosis (BV). BV occurs when there is an imbalance of the natural bacteria in the vagina, leading to symptoms like unusual discharge, unpleasant odour, and discomfort. By applying this gel, you can restore the balance of bacteria and alleviate these symptoms.

In some cases, doctors may prescribe Dalacin 2% Vaginal Cream for other bacterial infections in the vagina, but its main use remains the treatment of BV.

How does Dalacin 2% Vaginal Cream work?

Dalacin 2% Vaginal Cream contains clindamycin phosphate, an antibiotic that targets the bacteria causing the infection. When you apply the gel inside the vagina, the clindamycin phosphate penetrates the bacterial cells and inhibits their ability to produce essential proteins. Without these proteins, the bacteria cannot grow or multiply, leading to their eventual death. This process helps to restore the natural balance of bacteria in the vagina and alleviates the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis.

Who is Dalacin 2% Vaginal Cream suitable for?

Dalacin 2% Vaginal Cream is suitable for adult women diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis. It is not suitable for children or men. Pregnant women should consult their doctor before using this medication, as it may not be appropriate during certain stages of pregnancy.

Do not use Dalacin 2% Vaginal Cream if you are allergic to clindamycin or any other ingredients in the cream. If you have a history of inflammatory bowel disease or antibiotic-associated colitis, you should avoid using this medication. Always consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any concerns about whether this medication is suitable for you.
