What is Daktarin Cream Used For?

Daktarin Cream is a widely recognised antifungal and antibacterial treatment for skin and nail infections. Its active ingredient, miconazole nitrate, is known for effectively combating fungal and bacterial infections. Daktarin cream 15g and 30g is commonly used to relieve symptoms of conditions such as athlete’s foot, jock itch, intertrigo and infected nappy rash.

How Does Daktarin Cream 15g & 30g Work?

Daktarin Cream’s active ingredient, miconazole nitrate, attacks the fungal cells, causing the infection. It alleviates symptoms such as itching, redness, and skin cracking by destroying the fungus and associated bacteria. Alternatively, Daktarin Cream is also effective at treating nail infections, providing a thorough solution for fungal skin and nail issues.

What Dose of Daktarin Cream Do I Need?

For skin infections, you should apply Daktarin Cream to the infected area twice a day; however, the application can be done once or twice daily for nail infections. You should complete the course of treatment recommended by our pharmacists or your GP to prevent infections from reoccurring.

Who is Daktarin Cream Suitable For?

Daktarin Cream is suitable for those with fungal or bacterial skin infections. However, it should not be used by those who are:

  • Allergic to miconazole nitrate or any other ingredients listed in the cream.
  • Those with liver problems or
  • Taking oral anticoagulants (blood thinners)

If you’re still unsure whether Daktarin Cream is suitable for you, read the patient information leaflet or speak to one of our pharmacists.

How to Use Daktarin Cream 15g & 30g

  1. Wash and dry the infected area thoroughly.
  2. Apply the cream directly to the infected area and surrounding skin.
  3. Wash your hands after applying the cream to avoid spreading the infection.
  4. Change and wash clothing that comes into contact with the infected areas regularly.
  5. Apply twice daily for skin infections and once or twice daily for nail infections.
  6. Continue treatment for 7 to 10 days after symptoms clear.

Always use Daktarin cream as you’ve been advised; if you’re still unsure how to use it, speak to one of our pharmacists or read the patient information leaflet.
