What is Paracetamol?

Paracetamol, also known as acetaminophen, is a common pain reliever and fever reducer. It is widely used to alleviate mild to moderate pain from headaches, muscle aches, menstrual periods, colds, sore throats, toothaches, and to reduce fever. Paracetamol is available over the counter and is often a go-to medication for many people.

What is Paracetamol used for?

Paracetamol is primarily used for pain relief and to reduce fever. It is commonly used to alleviate the discomfort associated with various conditions such as headaches, muscle aches, menstrual periods, colds, sore throats, and toothaches. It is also effective in reducing fever caused by infections such as the flu or common cold.

How does Paracetamol work?

Paracetamol works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins in the brain. Prostaglandins are chemicals in the body that are responsible for transmitting pain signals to the brain and causing fever. By reducing the production of these chemicals, Paracetamol helps to alleviate pain and lower fever.

Who is Paracetamol suitable for?

Paracetamol is suitable for most people, including adults and children over the age of 6. It is generally safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women when taken at the recommended doses. However, individuals with certain medical conditions or those taking specific medications should consult their doctor or pharmacist before using Paracetamol.
