Differin acne treatment is available in two formulations: a Differin Gel Adapalene or Cream Adapalene. The active ingredient in Differin Cream and Gel is Adapalene, a type of retinoid derived from Vitamin A. Adapalene is an alternative to another popular retinoid, Tretinoin. It can prevent pores from getting blocked and reduce inflammation in the skin. Differin Gel Adapalene and Cream Adapalene are prescription-only products. You can buy Differin online from Click2Pharmacy through our online acne treatment clinic.

Over a third (34%) of UK adults have suffered from acne at some point in their life. Differin adapalene gel and cream are used to treat mild to moderate acne vulgaris. Differin can reduce the number and severity of pimples, whiteheads and blackheads associated with acne. You can use Differin cream or gel to treat acne on the face and all other parts of the body, such as the chest, back or shoulders.
Differin gel acne treatments can be used in adults and children over the age of 12 years. The same applies to Differin cream 0.1%.
Differin cream for acne works in the same way as Differin gel. The retinoid Adapalene works in multiple ways; the first is to increase cell turnover, allowing natural exfoliation of the skin. Adapalene also reduces the number of keratin skin cells and unclogs the skin’s pores and sebaceous glands. By applying Differin gel 0.1% and cream, the excess oil (sebum) on the face is diminished. In addition, the anti-inflammatory properties of Adapalene reduce swelling and redness caused by acne, improving the skin’s tone and texture. Differin gel/cream can also prevent breakouts, thereby stopping the formation of new acne.
Differin gel or cream starts to work immediately, and results may appear in as little as 2 weeks. However, it is recommended that Differin is used for up to 12 weeks to see significant results. With continued use, studies show that Differin gel can reduce acne by 87% after 12 weeks of use.
Like all medications, taking Differin Gel or cream comes with side effects:
Common Side effects:
Uncommon Side Effects:
If you experience swelling of the face, lips or throat which makes it difficult to swallow or breathe, rash, itching, hives and dizziness, this could be a sign of angioedema or a severe allergic reaction, so call 999 immediately.
Not everyone will experience side effects when taking Differin Gel Adapelene or Cream Adapelene. If you get any of these side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. See the patient information leaflet for a full list of side effects.
Differin 0.1% cream and gel are topical retinoids that are available on prescription. What makes them different from other acne products is that they don’t contain antibiotics. Studies show that Differin gel is a good choice for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris and has fewer side effects than other acne treatments.
Differin adapalene cream and Differin adapalene gel contain Adapalene 0.1%. Both work in the same way to treat acne. The only difference is in the formulation. People with dry skin may prefer Differin cream over the gel as the cream has moisturising properties. On the other hand, Differin gel may be more suited to oily skin.
Differin gel is absorbed more easily into the skin than Differin cream, but the cream can help moisturise the skin.
Differin should NOT be used during pregnancy or if you are thinking of getting pregnant. If you fall pregnant whilst using Differin, please discontinue use immediately and speak to your doctor. You CAN use Differin while breastfeeding. To avoid exposure to the baby, you should NOT apply the product to your chest.
You can buy Differin gel online from Click2Pharmacy. Differin is a prescription-based product, so you will need to fill out a consultation form for our pharmacy’s online acne clinic.
Differin gel is recommended for mild to moderate acne. As Differin contains the retinoid Adapalene, it can be used to treat comedonal acne.
Differin gel or cream is a clinically proven treatment to clear acne and prevent breakouts. Although some people may experience fewer side effects with Differin than other topical retinoid treatments, it may not suit all skin types. The pharmacists at Click2Pharmcy can guide you on which acne treatment product may be best for you.
Rosacea was once known as “acne rosacea” but is now considered a different condition. Although Differin can be prescribed by dermatologists to treat rosacea, it cannot be prescribed online for this purpose.
If used every day, a 45g tube of Differin gel should last up to 90 days.
