What are Dulcolax 10mg Suppositories?

Dulcolax 10mg Suppositories contain the active ingredient bisacodyl, which is a type of medicine known as a stimulant laxative. It works by stimulating the muscles in the bowel, helping to move stools through the body.

What are Dulcolax Suppositories used for?

Dulcolax 10mg Suppositories are primarily used to treat constipation. They can also be used to clear the bowel before surgery or radiological investigation.

Who are Dulcolax 10mg Suppositories suitable for?

Dulcolax 10mg Suppositories are suitable for adults and children over the age of 10. They may not be suitable for people with certain medical conditions, such as intestinal obstruction, acute abdominal conditions like appendicitis, severe dehydration, or known hypersensitivity to bisacodyl or any other ingredient of the product.

How to use Dulcolax Suppositories

  1. Remove the suppository from the foil.
  2. Insert the suppository into the rectum (back passage).
  3. Try to hold the suppository in place for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Wash your hands thoroughly after use.

You should use one Dulcolax 10mg Suppository per day. The effect is usually felt 10 to 45 minutes after insertion.

Do not use Dulcolax Suppositories for more than 7 days in a row. If your symptoms persist, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Dulcolax 10mg Suppositories Side Effects

Like all medicines, Dulcolax 10mg Suppositories can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Common Side Effects

  • Abdominal cramps or discomfort
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhoea

Uncommon Side Effects

  • Blood in the stools
  • Abdominal pain
  • Discomfort or pain in the anus

Serious Side Effects

  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Colitis (inflammation of the large intestine)
  • Dehydration

Important Information

  • Do not use Dulcolax 10mg Suppositories if you are allergic to bisacodyl or any of the other ingredients.
  • Do not use if you have severe dehydration.
  • Do not use if you have an intestinal obstruction or acute abdominal conditions like appendicitis.
  • Consult your doctor or pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
