What is Oral Thrush?
Oral thrush is a yeast infection in the mouth and throat caused by Candida. Oral thrush often occurs in babies and adults who wear dentures.
Antibiotics, asthma inhalers, or chemotherapy can also increase the risk of getting oral thrush.
Some things you can do to prevent the infection include:
- Rinsing your mouth after taking medicine or eating
- Visiting your dentist for regular check-ups
- Brushing your teeth twice a day
Oral thrush is typically treated with antifungal medicine, such as Daktarin Oral Gel, which is available in smaller doses over-the-counter or in larger doses on prescription.
What is Daktarin Oral Gel 80g?
Darkatrin Oral Gel is an effective antifungal medicine to treat oral thrush. It contains the active ingredients Miconazole, which kills fungi and yeast by causing holes to appear in their cell membranes. This destroys the fungal cells and helps clear up the infection.
Daktarin Oral Gel 80g is the larger dose version of Daktarin Oral Gel, which is available on prescription in the UK from licensed pharmacies.
How long does Daktarin Oral Gel take to work?
The effects of the oral gel should be noticeable within 24 hours of taking it. It can take up to one week after the symptoms appear for them to disappear completely. There is a risk of developing oral thrush again if you stop using daktarin before the course of your treatment is complete.
