Foundayo was authorised by the MHRA on 10th August 2026, making the UK the first country in Europe to approve this GLP-1 tablet for weight management and type 2 diabetes. Authorisation means it’s passed the MHRA’s review of its safety, quality and effectiveness.
It isn’t available in the UK just yet. It’s also not on the NHS, and it’ll need a separate review by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) before it can be prescribed on the NHS.
Private availability is expected to follow once supply reaches UK pharmacies, though a firm date hasn’t been confirmed.
Foundayo tablets are a weight management treatment for adults. They’re used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity to help you lose weight and keep it off if you have:
Foundayo is also used to treat adults with type 2 diabetes whose blood sugar isn’t well controlled. It can be used on its own or with other diabetes medicines, including tablets or insulin, when those aren’t enough. It lowers blood sugar only when your levels are high.
Foundayo contains orforglipron, a GLP-1 receptor agonist. Foundayo works by mimicking GLP-1, a hormone your body releases naturally after you eat.
Orforglipron acts on the areas of your brain that control appetite. It helps you feel fuller for longer, reduces hunger and eases food cravings, so you tend to eat less. Combined with a healthier diet and more activity, this can support weight loss over time.
In people with type 2 diabetes, it also helps steady blood sugar, bringing high levels down when they rise after eating. Unlike injectable GLP-1 weight loss treatments, Foundayo is a daily tablet you can take at any time of day without food or water restrictions.
Orforglipron for weight management was studied in a large clinical trial of adults with obesity or overweight. In it, people took Foundayo for 72 weeks alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
On the highest dose, the average weight loss was around 12.4% of body weight, compared with about 0.9% for those taking the placebo.
Almost 6 in 10 people lost at least 10% of their body weight, and around 4 in 10 lost 15% or more on the highest dose. The trial also saw improvements in other measures such as waist size, blood pressure and cholesterol.
How much weight someone loses varies from person to person, and results depend on keeping up the diet and lifestyle changes alongside treatment.
Foundayo is a weight loss treatment for adults aged 18 and over. It’s approved for weight loss in people with obesity, or people who are overweight with a weight-related health condition, and it’s also used for adults with type 2 diabetes that isn’t well controlled.
It isn’t suitable for everyone. You shouldn’t take Foundayo if you’re allergic to orforglipron or any of the other ingredients. It’s also not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and it isn’t for children or anyone under 18.

Foundayo is started at a low dose and increased gradually. Stepping up slowly helps reduce stomach-related side effects like nausea.
You’ll stay on each dose for at least 30 days before moving up, and your prescriber will only increase it if you need a higher dose. Don’t change your dose unless your prescriber tells you to.

If you’re due to have surgery or a procedure under anaesthetic, tell your medical team you take Foundayo, as it can raise the risk of food or liquid getting into your lungs.

Foundayo shouldn’t be taken at the same time as another GLP-1 medicine like Mounjaro or Wegovy. If you’re thinking about switching, this needs to be planned with a prescriber, who’ll advise on when to stop one treatment and start the other. Don’t switch on your own.
Foundayo isn’t recommended while breastfeeding, because it isn’t known whether it passes into breast milk and a risk to your baby cannot be ruled out if you’re breastfeeding or planning to, talk to your prescriber about other options.
Nausea is one of the most common side effects, particularly when you first start or after a dose increase. It’s usually mild to moderate and tends to settle as your body gets used to the medicine. Increasing the dose slowly is designed to help keep it to a minimum.
Both Foundayo and the Wegovy pill are oral GLP-1 treatments for weight loss. The main practical difference is timing: the Wegovy tablet needs to be taken on an empty stomach, with a wait before eating or drinking anything else, while Foundayo can be taken at any time, with or without food. A prescriber can talk through which might suit you.
Foundayo doesn’t work instantly. Appetite tends to change gradually over the first few weeks rather than straight away, and because the dose is built up in steps, weight loss happens steadily over months. Results vary from person to person.
Keep Foundayo in its original packaging to protect it from light, as the tablets are light-sensitive. Store it out of the sight and reach of children.
