About Effercitrate Tablets

Effercitrate tablets are an over-the-counter symptomatic treatment designed to relieve the discomfort associated with cystitis, a type of urinary tract infection (UTI) characterised by bladder inflammation. Each tablet dissolves in water to create a solution containing key alkalising ingredients that help to make urine less acidic, easing irritation and burning when passing urine.

Effercitrate is suitable for adults and children aged 6 years and over and is an accessible option for managing mild cystitis symptoms without a prescription.

Who can take Effercitrate Tablets?

Effercitrate tablets are appropriate for adults and children aged 6 years and older experiencing symptoms of mild cystitis.

Do not use Effercitrate if you:

  • Are allergic to potassium citrate, citric acid or any of the ingredients listed
  • Have high potassium levels (hyperkalaemia)
  • Have severe kidney or heart disease
  • Are dehydrated or have dark/cloudy urine

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Have high blood pressure
  • Are taking other medications that may affect potassium levels
  • Are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are breastfeeding

How to take Effercitrate Tablets

  1. Dissolve two tablets in a glass of water until fully dissolved.
  2. Drink the solution immediately.
  3. You may take up to three doses per day, preferably with or after meals.

Do not exceed the recommended dosage. Seek medical advice if symptoms do not improve after a few days or worsen.

Possible Side Effects

Although side effects are uncommon, some people may experience:

  • An increased urge to urinate, which is a normal effect of the medicine
  • Gastrointestinal discomfort, especially if taken on an empty stomach

If you develop severe or persistent side effects, stop use and consult a healthcare professional.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Not suitable for children under 6 years old.
  • Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medicines, especially those affecting potassium balance.
  • If symptoms persist beyond three days or worsen, seek medical attention.
  • Read the enclosed leaflet carefully before use.

  • Store below 25°C in a dry place.
