How does Nystatin work for oral thrush?
Nystatin oral liquid prevents and relieves symptoms of oral thrush by destroying the fungus responsible for it. It works by making holes in the cell membrane of the fungus, causing the contents to leak out, killing the fungus and treating the infection.
How long does Nystatin Oral Suspension take to work?
Nystatin Oral Suspension should start to relieve symptoms of oral thrush within the first 2 days of use, particularly if you are struggling with oral irritation caused by it. Typically, it takes a week to treat oral thrush, but you should continue using Nystatin Oral Suspension for 2 days after to ensure all fungus has been killed.
Who can take Nystatin liquid?
Nystatin is generally a suitable treatment of oral thrush in adults and children.
However, Nystatin is not suitable if you:
- Have a fungal infection in the lungs or on the skin
- Taking or have recently stopped taking any other prescribed or non-prescribed medications.
- Are pregnant, breastfeeding, could be pregnant or planning on having a baby.
How to use Nystatin Oral Suspension for thrush
The recommended dose of Nystan for adults over 18 is 1ml, and it is typically used four times a day by mouth. Doses should be spaced out equally throughout the day
