Potassium Citrate Mixture is an oral urinary alkalinizing medicine containing potassium citrate, designed to make your urine less acidic. It provides symptomatic relief from painful urination and bladder irritation caused by mild urinary tract infections such as cystitis, and it may help ease burning sensations and frequent urges to urinate by reducing acidity and irritation in the urinary system.

Potassium Citrate Mixture is supplied as a 200ml liquid solution – ideal for adults, the elderly, and children over 6 years when used as directed.

What Is Potassium Citrate Mixture Used For?

Potassium Citrate Mixture is primarily used to ease the symptoms of mild urinary tract infections, including burning sensation, discomfort during urination, and lower abdominal irritation by making the urine less acidic and reducing irritation to the bladder and urethra. It is not an antibiotic and should not replace antibacterial treatment when needed.

Who Is Potassium Citrate Mixture Suitable For?

This medicine is suitable for adults, the elderly, and children over 6 years when used exactly as instructed.

Do not use if you:

• Are allergic to potassium citrate or any ingredient of the mixture
• Have serious kidney problems or conditions like Addison’s disease
• Have high potassium levels in the blood (hyperkalaemia)

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

• Have heart disease or irregular heartbeat
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Are taking potassium‑raising medications (such as potassium‑sparing diuretics or ACE inhibitors)

How to Use Potassium Citrate Mixture

1. Shake the bottle well before use.
2. Measure the correct dose with a medicine spoon or cup.
3. Dilute the dose with water and drink after meals.
4. Adults & children 6+ years: take 10ml diluted with water three times daily.
5. Children aged 1–6 years: take 5ml diluted with water three times daily.

Always follow the dosage instructions on the leaflet or as advised by your pharmacist or doctor.

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects may include mild:

• Upset stomach, nausea, or vomiting
• Gastrointestinal discomfort or diarrhoea

Rarely, high potassium levels (hyperkalaemia) can occur, leading to muscle weakness or irregular heartbeat. If you experience severe side effects, stop use and contact a healthcare professional immediately.
