About Acnecide Face Wash

Acnecide Face Wash 5% w/w Gel is a pharmacy medicine for the treatment of mild acne on the face in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over.
It contains benzoyl peroxide, an antibacterial ingredient that kills acne-causing bacteria (Propionibacterium acnes), helping reduce blackheads, whiteheads, and spots.

By cleansing the skin and reducing bacteria and inflammation, Acnecide helps clear mild acne and prevent new breakouts. It is designed for external use on the face only and should not be used on the back, chest, or shoulders.

Who is Acnecide Face Wash Suitable For?

Acnecide is suitable for adults and teenagers aged 12 years and above with mild acne affecting the face only.

Do not use Acnecide if you:

• Are allergic to benzoyl peroxide or any of the listed ingredients
• Have inflamed, broken, or damaged skin
• Have acne on the chest, shoulders, or back
• Are under 12 years old

Consult your pharmacist or doctor before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid applying the product to the chest while breastfeeding.

How to Use Acnecide Face Wash

1. Wet the affected area of skin with water.
2. Apply a small amount of Acnecide Face Wash to your hands and gently wash the area.
3. Leave on the skin for 1–2 minutes before rinsing thoroughly with water and patting dry.
4. Start by using once daily, preferably in the evening, then increase to twice daily if tolerated.
5. If redness, peeling, or irritation occurs, reduce to once daily or stop temporarily until the skin recovers.

Use a light, oil-free moisturiser after washing to help prevent dryness or irritation.

Possible Side Effects of Acnecide Face Wash

Like all medicines, Acnecide can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them.

Very common (may affect more than 1 in 10 people):

• Dry skin
• Redness
• Peeling
• Burning sensation

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

• Itching or stinging
• Pain or irritation at the application site

Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):

• Allergic contact dermatitis (rash, inflammation, or dryness)

Stop using Acnecide and seek medical advice if you develop swelling, severe redness, blistering, or difficulty breathing (signs of an allergic reaction).

Warnings and Precautions

• Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, angles of the nose, or broken skin.
• May cause increased sensitivity to sunlight — avoid sunbeds and excessive sun exposure.
• May bleach hair or coloured fabrics — wash hands thoroughly after use.
• Do not use with other acne treatments unless advised by a doctor.

Storage Instructions

• Store below 25°C.
• Keep the cap tightly closed and out of reach of children.
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the tube or packaging.

Ingredients

Active ingredient: Benzoyl peroxide 5% w/w (as hydrous benzoyl peroxide).
Other ingredients: Acrylates copolymer, glycerol, carbomer 940, sodium olefin sulfonate, sodium hydroxide, and purified water.
