Dermax Therapeutic Shampoo is used to treat dry, scaly scalp conditions, specifically:
Dermax Therapeutic Shampoo contains benzalkonium chloride, an antiseptic agent that tackles scalp conditions in two ways.
First, it loosens the scales that build up on the scalp and lifts them away from the hair, making them easier to remove during washing. Then, it acts as a mild antiseptic, helping combat the micro-organisms that can aggravate conditions such as seborrhoeic dermatitis and severe dandruff.
Used regularly, it helps to calm the scalp, reduce flaking and keep symptoms under control.
Dermax Therapeutic Shampoo is suitable for adults, the elderly and children.
It can be used during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding. The ingredients have been in widespread use in this and similar treatments for many years without reports of problems, though formal safety trials have not been conducted.
Do not use Dermax Therapeutic Shampoo if you are allergic to benzalkonium chloride or any of the other ingredients listed in the patient information leaflet.
Do not use this product on newborn babies up to 4 weeks old. It contains sodium benzoate, which may increase jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) in newborns.
If you are unsure if Dermax is suitable for you, speak to your pharmacist or doctor before use.
Use daily if required, reducing to once or twice a week as your condition improves, then occasionally to maintain results.
If there is no improvement after 4 weeks, or your condition looks or feels worse, stop using the shampoo and speak to your doctor or pharmacist.
Like all medicines, Dermax Therapeutic Shampoo can cause side effects, although not everybody experiences them.
For most people, the shampoo is well tolerated.
These reactions tend to occur during or shortly after the first few uses. If you experience any irritation, stop using the shampoo and speak to your doctor or pharmacist.
For a full list of side effects, read the patient information leaflet.
If you notice any side effects, tell your doctor or pharmacist even if they are not listed here. You can also report side effects through the Yellow Card Scheme. This helps improve the safety of this medicine.

This varies from person to person. Use Dermax regularly until your scalp looks and feels better. If you see no improvement after 4 weeks, or your condition worsens, stop using the shampoo and speak to your doctor or pharmacist.
When used as directed, Dermax Therapeutic Shampoo is perfectly safe. It’s been formulated for use on dry or problem skin and is well tolerated by most people. Side effects are rare. If you experience any irritation, stop use and speak to your pharmacist or doctor.
Dermax can be used daily if needed. As your scalp improves, you can reduce use to once or twice a week. Once your condition is under control, occasional use may be enough to keep symptoms from returning. Follow the guidance of your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
