About Ovranette Contraceptive Pill

Ovranette Contraceptive Pill is a combined oral contraceptive that contains levonorgestrel 150 micrograms and ethinylestradiol 30 micrograms. It is used to prevent pregnancy by stopping ovulation and making cervical mucus thicker, which helps prevent sperm from reaching the womb.

Ovranette is a 21-day pill, meaning you take one tablet daily for 21 days followed by a 7-day break. It may also help make periods more regular, lighter, and less painful.

Ovranette is available in the following pack sizes:

  • 63 tablets – Three blister strips

What Is Ovranette Used For?

Ovranette Contraceptive Pill is used for reliable prevention of pregnancy. It may also be prescribed for painful periods (dysmenorrhoea), premenstrual tension, endometriosis, and heavy or irregular bleeding from the womb.

Who Is Ovranette Suitable For?

Ovranette is suitable for women who require a reliable, reversible method of contraception.

Do not take Ovranette if you:

  • Are pregnant or breast-feeding
  • Have ever had a blood clot, stroke, or heart attack
  • Have migraine with visual disturbances
  • Have severe liver disease or liver tumours
  • Have hormone-sensitive cancer such as breast or ovarian cancer
  • Smoke heavily and are aged 35 or over
  • Have unexplained vaginal bleeding

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, or migraines
  • Have a history of depression or mood changes
  • Are due to have surgery or will be immobilised

How to Take Ovranette Contraceptive Pill

  1. Take one tablet at the same time every day.
  2. Follow the arrows on the blister strip.
  3. Take tablets for 21 days continuously.
  4. Have a 7-day tablet-free break.
  5. Start the next pack after 7 days, even if you are still bleeding.

If you miss a pill, take it as soon as you remember and continue the pack as normal. Extra contraception may be needed.

Possible Side Effects of Ovranette

Very common side effects:

  • Headache
  • Breakthrough bleeding or spotting

Common side effects:

  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Breast tenderness
  • Changes in mood
  • Acne

Rare but serious side effects include blood clots, stroke, and liver problems. Seek urgent medical advice if sudden chest pain, breathlessness, or leg swelling occurs.

Warnings and Precautions

  • This tablet does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
  • Risk of blood clots may increase, particularly during the first year of use.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines such as epilepsy, HIV, or fungal treatments.

Storage Instructions

  • Store below 25°C.
  • Keep in the original blister packaging.
  • Keep out of sight and reach of children.
