About Periactin Tablets

Periactin Tablets contain cyproheptadine hydrochloride 4mg, an antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergies such as hay fever, skin reactions, and itching. It works by blocking histamine, a substance released by the body during allergic reactions, helping to reduce symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and skin irritation.

What Are Periactin Tablets Used For?

Periactin Tablets are used to relieve symptoms of allergic conditions such as hay fever, skin allergies, urticaria (hives), and itching. They help control sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and allergic skin reactions by reducing the effects of histamine in the body.

Who Are Periactin Tablets Suitable For?

Periactin is suitable for adults and children aged 2 years and over when prescribed by a healthcare professional.

Do not take Periactin Tablets if you:

  • Are allergic to cyproheptadine or any of the ingredients
  • Have narrow-angle glaucoma
  • Have difficulty passing urine or prostate problems
  • Have a stomach or intestinal blockage
  • Are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
  • Are a newborn or premature infant

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Have asthma
  • Have high blood pressure or heart disease
  • Have liver problems
  • Are elderly
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

How to Take Periactin Tablets

  1. Take the tablets exactly as prescribed.
  2. Swallow with water.
  3. Take at evenly spaced times during the day.
  4. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
  5. If you miss a dose, take it when remembered unless it is almost time for the next dose.

Periactin may cause drowsiness. Avoid alcohol and take care when driving or operating machinery.
