About Slow Sodium Tablets

Slow Sodium Tablets contain sodium chloride 600mg in a specialized prolonged-release formulation. These tablets are designed to replace salt lost by the body due to specific medical conditions or excessive sweating. By releasing sodium slowly into the digestive system, they help maintain a healthy electrolyte balance and prevent the sudden irritation often associated with standard salt supplements.

Slow Sodium Tablets are suitable for adults and children and are available in a convenient bulk pack:

  • Slow Sodium 600mg Tablets – 100 Pack

Used to Treat Sodium deficiency (hyponatremia) and salt depletion

What Is Slow Sodium Used For?

Slow Sodium Tablets are used to prevent or treat sodium deficiency (salt depletion) caused by conditions such as chronic kidney disease, excessive sweating due to high temperatures, or strenuous physical exertion. They are also used to manage “salt-wasting” syndromes where the body loses too much sodium through urine.

Who Is Slow Sodium Suitable For?

Slow Sodium is suitable for adults, the elderly, and children, provided the underlying cause of sodium loss has been diagnosed by a healthcare professional.

Do not use Slow Sodium Tablets if you:

  • Are allergic to sodium chloride or any listed ingredients
  • Suffer from severe kidney failure
  • Have high blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Have fluid retention (oedema) or congestive heart failure
  • Are in a state of severe dehydration

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Are on a controlled sodium diet
  • Have mild to moderate kidney or liver impairment
  • Are taking medications for high blood pressure or water tablets (diuretics)

Ingredients

Other ingredients: Sucrose, acacia gum, magnesium stearate, and a film-coating containing Eudragit (ammonio methacrylate copolymer), dibutyl phthalate, and titanium dioxide (E171).

How to Use Slow Sodium Tablets

  1. Check the prescribed dose on the pharmacy label or follow your doctor’s instructions.
  2. Swallow the tablets whole with a full glass of water.
  3. Do not crush, break, or chew the tablets, as this destroys the “slow-release” mechanism.
  4. Take the tablets at regular intervals throughout the day.
  5. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is nearly time for your next dose.

Do not exceed the recommended daily intake unless specifically instructed by a physician.

Possible Side Effects of Slow Sodium Tablets

Most people use Slow Sodium without experiencing significant issues, but side effects can occur:

  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Stomach pain or abdominal cramps
  • Diarrhoea

If you notice swelling of the ankles, shortness of breath, or a significant rise in blood pressure, stop use and consult a doctor immediately, as these may be signs of sodium overload.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Do not exceed the dose recommended by your doctor.
  • Prolonged-release tablets may occasionally be visible in the stool; this is normal and does not mean the medicine hasn’t worked.
  • Monitor your blood pressure regularly if you are using these long-term.
  • Keep out of the reach of children to prevent accidental salt poisoning.

Storage Instructions

  • Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C.
  • Keep the tablets in the original packaging to protect them from moisture.
  • Keep out of sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.
