About Solvazinc Effervescent Tablets

Solvazinc Effervescent Tablets contain 125mg of zinc sulfate monohydrate, providing 45mg of elemental zinc per tablet. Zinc is a vital trace mineral that acts as a cofactor for over 300 enzymes in the body, playing a crucial role in cell metabolism, wound healing, and maintaining the senses of taste and smell. These tablets are specifically formulated to treat confirmed or suspected zinc deficiency when dietary intake is insufficient. As an effervescent medication, Solvazinc is designed to be dissolved in water, making it an ideal choice for individuals who have difficulty swallowing traditional capsules or tablets. Solvazinc is suitable for adults and children, with dosing adjusted by body weight:

  • Adults and children over 30kg: 1 tablet daily (up to 3 times daily)
  • Children 10kg to 30kg: Half a tablet daily (up to 3 times daily)
  • Children under 10kg: Half a tablet once daily

What Is Solvazinc Used For?

Solvazinc is a mineral supplement used to treat zinc deficiency. Zinc is essential for a healthy immune system, protein synthesis, and DNA production. It is often used when a patient cannot get enough zinc from their diet or has a medical condition that causes low zinc levels.

Who Is Solvazinc Suitable For?

Solvazinc is suitable for adults and children who have been diagnosed with or are suspected of having a zinc deficiency. Do not take Solvazinc if you:

  • Are allergic to zinc sulfate or any of the other ingredients
  • Have been told by a doctor that you have a copper deficiency

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Have kidney problems
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Are on a controlled sodium diet (each tablet contains 106mg of sodium)
  • Have hereditary fructose intolerance (contains sorbitol)

How to Use Solvazinc Effervescent Tablets

  1. Place the tablet (or half tablet, if prescribed) into a small glass of water.
  2. Wait for the tablet to completely dissolve and the fizzing to stop.
  3. Drink the entire contents of the glass immediately.
  4. Take the dose shortly after a meal to minimise potential stomach irritation.

Do not swallow the tablet whole; it must be dissolved in water first.

Possible Side Effects of Solvazinc

Common side effects usually involve the digestive system:

  • Stomach pain or discomfort
  • Indigestion or nausea
  • Diarrhoea
  • Headache or irritability

Long-term use warning: Taking high doses of zinc over a long period can interfere with the body’s absorption of copper. This may lead to copper deficiency, which can cause symptoms like numbness, tingling, or weakness.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
  • Avoid taking at the same time as iron or calcium supplements, as these can reduce zinc absorption.
  • Allow at least 3 hours between taking Solvazinc and certain antibiotics (tetracyclines or quinolones).
  • The cap of the tube contains a desiccant (silica gel) to keep tablets dry; do not eat it.

Storage Instructions

  • Store below 25°C in a dry place.
  • Keep the tube tightly closed to protect the tablets from moisture.
  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
