Facial Hair removal women

Facial hair in women maybe clinically diagnosed when there is an average hair density of 5 thick hairs per cm2 on the chin or upper lip causing women to remove the hair at least twice a week. It can affect up to 15% of women and can have sevral causes:

  • PCOS (Polycycstic Ovary Syndrome) – up to 60% of cases
  • Medication induced (ciclosporin, steroids, danazol, sodium valproate & phenytoin)
  • Tumour (androgen secreting hormone – suspect if hair growth is severe with rapid onset)
  • No causes found – up to 40% of cases

What does Vaniqa Cream do

Vaniqa 11.5% cream does not actually remove hair but slows down hair growth. It does this by blocking an enzyme called ornithine decarboxylase. This enzyme is found in hair follicles and by blocking it the hair growth is reduced. In clinical trials Vaniqa has shown to reduce hair growth in up to 60% of women and benefits are shown over a period of 4 to 8 weeks. If there is no improvement after 4 months then stop use. The most common reported side effect is minor skin irritation.

How to use Vaniqa cream:

Prepare the skin by removing any make up and ensuring it is clean and dry. Apply to the cream throughly to the affected areas twice a day at least 8 hours apart. Areas that it helps the most are the chin and face and no more than 30g should be used in a month. If you have plucked, waxed or shaved wait 5 minutes before applying the cream. Do not apply to broken or irritated skin or to the eyes, inside nose or to the mouth. Leave the cream on at least 4 hours before washing.
