How Does Winlevi Work?

Winlevi contains clascoterone, which is an androgen receptor inhibitor. Androgens are hormones that can trigger your oil glands to produce excess sebum (oil), which then clogs pores and leads to acne breakouts.

Clascoterone works by blocking androgen receptors in the skin. By doing this, it prevents androgens from stimulating sebum production and inflammation in your skin. This helps reduce the formation of new acne spots and can improve existing breakouts.

Because it targets hormones at the skin level rather than throughout your whole body, Winlevi offers a more targeted approach to treating hormonal acne without the systemic side effects of oral hormone treatments.

What is Winlevi Used For?

Winlevi 1% Cream is used to treat acne vulgaris in men and women aged 12 years and older. It’s particularly effective for treating:

• Hormonal acne that appears along the jawline, chin, and lower face
• Inflammatory acne, including papules and pustules
• Acne that hasn’t responded well to other topical treatments
• Persistent or recurring breakouts linked to hormonal fluctuations

Winlevi can be used alone or as part of a broader acne treatment plan alongside other medications, depending on your individual needs and your doctor’s recommendations.

Who Can Use Winlevi?

Winlevi is suitable for males and females aged 12 years and older who have acne vulgaris. It’s particularly helpful for people dealing with hormonal acne or those who haven’t had success with other topical treatments.

However, Winlevi may not be suitable for everyone. You should consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Winlevi if you:

• Are allergic to clascoterone or any other ingredients in the cream
• Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
• Have very sensitive skin or other active skin conditions
• Are using other prescription acne treatments

Before starting treatment with Winlevi, always inform your doctor or pharmacist about any medications you’re taking and any medical conditions you have.

How to Apply Winlevi Clascoterone Cream

1. Wash your face with a mild cleanser and pat it dry. Make sure your skin is completely dry before applying Winlevi.
2. Apply a thin layer of Winlevi topical cream to the affected areas of your face twice daily – once in the morning and once in the evening.
3. Gently rub the cream in until it’s absorbed. Avoid getting the product in your eyes, mouth, or nose. If this happens, rinse thoroughly with water.
4. Wash your hands after applying the treatment.
5. You can apply moisturiser and other skincare products after Winlevi has been absorbed, but wait a few minutes to let the cream settle into your skin first.

Continue using Winlevi as prescribed by your doctor, even if your symptoms improve. It can take several weeks to see noticeable results, and stopping treatment too early may cause your acne to return. Most people see improvement within 12 weeks of consistent use.

Winlevi Cream Side Effects

Like all medications, Winlevi can cause possible side effects, although not everyone experiences them. Most side effects are mild, like local skin reactions where you’ve applied the treatment.

Common Side Effects

• Redness at the application site
• Peeling or flaking skin
• Dryness
• Itching
• Burning or stinging sensation

Uncommon Side Effects

• Swelling at the application site

Rare Side Effects

If you experience any side effects, particularly if they’re severe or persistent, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Most mild side effects will settle down as your skin adjusts to the treatment. If the irritation is severe or doesn’t improve, your doctor may recommend reducing how often you apply it or switching to a different treatment.

If you experience a severe allergic reaction, discontinue use of Winlevi and seek immediate medical attention.

Winlevi Ingredients

Active ingredient: Clascoterone 10 mg/g (1%).
Other ingredients: Cetyl alcohol, citric acid monohydrate (E330), glycerol monostearate, liquid paraffin, polysorbate 80, propylene glycol (E1520), purified water, disodium edetate, and vitamin E (all-rac-α-tocopherol E307).

Winlevi Warnings

• Consult your doctor before using Winlevi if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. The safety of Winlevi during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established.
• Winlevi is for external use only. Avoid contact with your eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
• Do not apply Winlevi to broken, damaged, or irritated skin, including areas with cuts, scrapes, or eczema.
• Winlevi may increase your skin’s sensitivity to sunlight. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors, and try to limit sun exposure while using this treatment.
