What Is Anbesol Adult Gel Used For?

Anbesol Adult Gel is used for the effective relief of pain caused by mouth ulcers and irritation caused by dentures. The lidocaine acts quickly to numb pain, while the antiseptic ingredients help to maintain oral hygiene in the affected area, preventing minor infections from worsening during the healing process.

Who Is Anbesol Adult Gel Suitable For?

Anbesol Adult Gel is suitable for adults, the elderly, and children over 12 years of age.

Do not use Anbesol Adult Gel if you:

  • Are allergic to lidocaine or any of the other listed ingredients
  • Have a history of sensitivity to local anaesthetics
  • Suffer from rare blood disorders (methemoglobinemia)

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Have a stomach ulcer
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have liver or heart problems
  • Are taking other medications for heart rhythm or blood pressure

How to Use Anbesol Adult Gel

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly before application.
  2. Apply a small amount of gel (enough to cover the sore area) to a clean fingertip.
  3. Gently smooth the gel directly onto the mouth ulcer or irritated gum area.
  4. For denture irritation, apply the gel to the gums and leave for a few moments before reinserting dentures.
  5. Repeat every 3 hours if necessary, up to a maximum of 8 times daily.

If symptoms last for more than 7 days, consult your doctor or dentist.

Possible Side Effects of Anbesol Adult Gel

Like all medicines, Anbesol can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them:

  • Sensitisation or temporary dermatitis
  • Local irritation or redness at the site of application

Very rare:

  • Severe allergic reactions (swelling of the face, lips, or throat)

If you experience any skin rash or difficulty breathing, stop use immediately and seek medical attention.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Do not exceed the recommended dose of 8 applications per day.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes; if contact occurs, rinse immediately with water.
  • Do not use for more than 7 days without consulting a medical professional.
  • Excessive application or swallowing of the gel may lead to side effects; use sparingly.

Storage Instructions

  • Store below 25°C.
  • Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use.
  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use after the expiry date printed on the carton or tube.
