About Azyter Eye Drops

Azyter Eye Drops is a prescription-only treatment used for bacterial conjunctivitis (eye infection) in adults, adolescents, and children. It contains azithromycin 15 mg/g, an antibiotic that helps eliminate the bacteria responsible for the infection.

Azyter works by stopping the growth of bacteria in the eye, reducing redness, discharge, irritation, and discomfort. It is supplied in single-dose containers and is used twice daily for three days.

What is Azyter Eye Drops Used For?

Azyter Eye Drops are used to treat bacterial conjunctivitis, an eye infection that causes redness, irritation, sticky discharge, and discomfort. It works by killing the bacteria responsible for the infection, helping symptoms resolve quickly.

Who is Azyter Eye Drops Suitable For?

Azyter is suitable for adults, adolescents, and children who have been diagnosed with bacterial conjunctivitis.

Do not use Azyter if you:

  • Are allergic to azithromycin or any of the ingredients
  • Have an eye infection not caused by bacteria (such as viral or allergic conjunctivitis)
  • Have severe eye pain or changes in vision — seek medical attention instead

Azyter can be used during breastfeeding. If you are pregnant, speak to a doctor before using this medicine.

How to Use Azyter Eye Drops

  1. Wash your hands before using the drops.
  2. Open a single-dose container just before use.
  3. Tilt your head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid.
  4. Instil one drop into the affected eye(s).
  5. Use twice daily (morning and evening) for 3 days only.
  6. Discard each single-dose container immediately after use — do not reuse.

If symptoms do not improve within a few days, contact a doctor for further advice.

Possible Side Effects of Azyter Eye Drops

Like all medicines, Azyter can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Most are mild and short-lasting.

Very Common (may affect more than 1 in 10 people):

  • Itching, burning, or stinging in the eye

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

  • Blurred vision
  • Sticky sensation in the eye
  • Sensation of something in the eye

Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):

  • Watery eyes
  • Eye redness or swelling
  • Dryness or irritation of the eyelids

Seek urgent medical advice if you experience worsening redness, severe eye pain, or persistent vision changes.

Warnings and Precautions

  • For eye use only — do not swallow.
  • Do not wear contact lenses during treatment.
  • Use a new single-dose container for every application.
  • Avoid touching the eye with the container tip.
  • Do not use for more than 3 days unless advised by a doctor.

Storage Instructions

  • Store below 25°C.
  • Keep single-dose containers in their foil pouch until use.
  • Discard immediately after opening.
  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
