What is Bazuka Extra Strength gel?

Bazuka Extra Strength Gel is a simple and effective topical treatment for warts and verrucas. It comes in a handy tube, so you can easily apply it straight onto the affected area. The gel contains salicylic acid, which works to gently break down the tough, thick skin that forms over these common skin problems.

Warts and verrucas are caused by a virus and can be uncomfortable or embarrassing, especially if they spread. Warts often appear on your hands or fingers, while verrucas usually show up on the soles of your feet. Bazuka Extra Strength Gel helps by softening the hard skin and working to remove the wart or verruca over time.

This gel can also help with corns and calluses, which are patches of hard skin caused by rubbing or pressure, often from shoes. Just like with warts and verrucas, the gel works by breaking down the thickened skin, making it easier to manage and remove at home.

How does Bazuka Extra Strength gel work?

The active ingredient, salicylic acid, works by softening hard skin so it can be easily removed with a pumice stone or emery board. It also helps destroy the human papillomavirus (HPV) that causes warts and verrucas. The gel forms a water-resistant barrier over the treatment area, protecting it while delivering the active ingredient.

The gel also helps to stimulate the immune system to fight the virus that causes warts and verrucas. By breaking down the thickened skin, the gel allows the body’s natural defences to reach and attack the virus more effectively.

Who is Bazuka Extra Strength gel suitable for?

Bazuka Extra Strength Gel is suitable for most adults and children who need to treat warts and verrucas.

However, unless advised by a doctor or pharmacist, Bazuka Extra Strength Gel isn’t recommended for:

• People who are allergic to salicylic acid or any other ingredients in the product
• Pregnant or breastfeeding women
• People who are diabetic
• People with poor circulation in the hands or feet

Bazuka Extra Strength gel must not be applied to the face, genitals, or broken or irritated skin, and is not suitable for use on moles, birthmarks, or warts with hair.

How to Apply Bazuka Extra Strength Gel

Preparing to Use the Gel

Before you use Bazuka Extra Strength Gel for the first time:

1. Choose a flat surface in case of accidental spillage.
2. Hold the tube upright with the cap at the top and the base resting on a surface.
3. Unscrew the combined white and yellow nozzle/cap.
4. Remove and throw away the red collar found under the cap.
5. Keep the tube upright for 30 seconds.
6. Carefully screw the nozzle/cap assembly back onto the tube.
7. Briefly loosen the yellow cap to release any pressure, then retighten it.

Once the tube is set up, a small gap between the cap and the tube is normal. Avoid folding the tube as this may cause leaks.

Using Bazuka Extra Strength Gel

Apply the gel once daily, usually in the evening. Be careful to apply it only to the wart, verruca, corn, or callus, as it may irritate healthy skin.

Follow these steps carefully each day:

1. Soak the affected area in warm water for 2-3 minutes.
2. Dry the area thoroughly using your own towel (especially if treating a wart or verruca) to prevent the spread of infection.
3. Remove the yellow cap from the tube (don’t remove the white nozzle).
4. Carefully apply a thin coating of one or two drops of gel directly to the wart, verruca, corn, or callus only.
5. Allow the gel to dry for a few minutes. It will form a small, white, water-resistant protective barrier. There’s no need to cover the area with a plaster unless advised.
6. Always replace the yellow cap after use.

Each evening:

• Remove the white patch of dried gel before applying a fresh layer (following steps 1-6).
• If it’s hard to peel off, reapply gel over the top, let it dry, and remove it the next evening.

Once a week:

• Gently file the area using the emery board provided (or a pumice stone) to smooth the skin. If treating warts or verrucas, do not share the emery board to prevent the spread of the virus.

Continue treatment daily until the lesion disappears. Some may clear quickly, while others (especially verrucas) may need up to 12 weeks.

If you accidentally get the gel on healthy skin, wipe it off immediately. If it gets into your eyes or mouth, rinse thoroughly with water and get medical advice. Avoid inhaling vapours.

Bazuka Extra Strength Gel Side Effects

Like all medications, Bazuka Extra Strength Gel can cause side effects. Below are the common, uncommon, and serious side effects you may experience.

• Tingling or mild tenderness
• Temporary blemishes on treated skin

Active Ingredients: Salicylic acid 26% w/w

Inactive Ingredients: Camphor, Povidone, Pyroxylin, Ethanol, Acetone, Isopropyl alcohol.

Bazuka Extra Strength Gel Warnings

• Avoid using the gel on broken or inflamed skin.
• Keep the gel away from your eyes, mouth, genitals and other mucous membranes.
• If you get gel accidentally in your eyes, rinse thoroughly with water and seek medical attention if irritation persists.
• Keep Bazuka Extra Strength Gel out of reach of children.
• Keep Bazuka Extra Strength Gel away from flames as it is highly flammable.
• Store below 25°C and use before the end of the expiry date month.
• If you inhale a lot of the vapour from the gel, it may make you feel light-headed. If this happens, get plenty of fresh air.
• If you spill the product on your clothes, fabrics, jewellery, metal or polished surfaces, it may damage them permanently.
