About Bonjela Junior Gel

Bonjela Junior Gel is a fast-acting oromucosal treatment designed to provide effective relief from the pain and discomfort associated with mouth ulcers and brace irritation. Formulated with a local anaesthetic and an antiseptic, it works quickly to numb sore areas while helping to prevent secondary infections. This clear, banana-flavoured gel is sugar-free and specifically developed for use in adults, the elderly, and children over 5 months of age. Bonjela Junior Gel is a targeted solution for common oral sores and is available in a convenient tube size:

What Is Bonjela Junior Gel Used For?

Bonjela Junior Gel is primarily used to relieve pain from common mouth ulcers and irritation caused by orthodontic devices (braces) or dentures. The lidocaine hydrochloride acts as a local anaesthetic to numb the pain, while cetylpyridinium chloride serves as an antiseptic to kill bacteria and reduce the risk of infection in the open sore.

Who Is Bonjela Junior Gel Suitable For?

Bonjela Junior Gel is suitable for adults, the elderly, and children/infants aged 5 months and over. Do not use Bonjela Junior Gel if you:

  • Are allergic to lidocaine, cetylpyridinium chloride, or any other ingredients listed
  • Are allergic to other local anaesthetics of the amide type
  • Suffer from abnormal blood pigment levels (methaemoglobinaemia)
  • Are treating an infant under 5 months of age

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Have heart or liver problems
  • Are taking medicines for high blood pressure (e.g., propranolol, bisoprolol)
  • Are taking medicines for stomach conditions (e.g., cimetidine)
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

How to Use Bonjela Junior Gel

  1. Check that the cap seal is unbroken before the first use.
  2. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after application.
  3. Apply a small amount of gel to the painful area with a clean fingertip or cotton swab.
  4. The application can be repeated after 20 minutes if pain persists.
  5. Thereafter, apply every 3 hours as required.

Do not use more than the label tells you to. If symptoms do not improve after a few days, consult your doctor or dentist.

Possible Side Effects of Bonjela Junior Gel

Most users do not experience side effects, but possible reactions include:

  • Skin rashes or itchy/irritated skin
  • A burning sensation if applied to damaged skin (due to ethanol content)

Stop use and seek medical help immediately if you notice:

  • Bluish colouring of the skin (signs of methaemoglobinaemia)
  • Shortness of breath, headache, or lack of energy

Warnings and Precautions

  • Not for teething: This product is not suitable for treating teething in infants.
  • Do not exceed the recommended dose; excessive use on traumatised mucosa can lead to serious adverse effects.
  • Contains 242.2mg of alcohol (ethanol) per 1g, which may cause a stinging sensation.
  • Contains Eugenol (fragrance), which may cause allergic reactions.

Storage Instructions

  • Store below 25°C.
  • Do not use after the expiry date stated on the carton and tube.
  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
