About Difflam Oral Rinse

Difflam Oral Rinse contains the active ingredient benzydamine hydrochloride, which belongs to a group of medicines known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Unlike standard mouthwashes, Difflam is a locally acting analgesic and anti-inflammatory treatment designed to target the site of pain. It works by stopping the formation of prostaglandins, the natural substances that cause swelling and discomfort, providing effective relief for inflammatory conditions of the mouth and throat.Difflam Oral Rinse is suitable for adults and children over 12 years of age and is available in a 300ml bottle:

What Is Difflam Oral Rinse Used For?

Difflam Oral Rinse is used to relieve pain and inflammation in the mouth and throat. It is particularly effective for treating sore throats, mouth ulcers (aphthous ulcers), and sore gums. It is also commonly used to manage discomfort caused by dentures or to provide relief following dental operations and surgery.

Who Is Difflam Oral Rinse Suitable For?

Difflam is suitable for adults, the elderly, and children aged 12 years and over.Do not use Difflam Oral Rinse if you:

  • Are allergic to benzydamine hydrochloride or any other ingredients listed
  • Are a child aged 12 years or under

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Have a history of bronchial asthma
  • Are allergic to aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) or other NSAID painkillers
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

Ingredients

Other ingredients: Ethanol (96%), glycerol, saccharin sodium, mouthwash flavour, polysorbate 20, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), Quinoline Yellow (E104), Patent Blue V (E131), purified water

How to Use Difflam Oral Rinse

  1. Use the graduated measuring cup provided to measure 15ml of the solution.
  2. Pour the solution into your mouth but do not swallow.
  3. Rinse the solution around your mouth or use it as a gargle for 20 to 30 seconds.
  4. Spit the solution out after use.
  5. Wash the measuring cup and store it safely for your next dose.

If the solution causes a stinging sensation, you can dilute the next dose with a small amount of water to reduce the effect.

Possible Side Effects of Difflam Oral Rinse

Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):

  • Numbness or a stinging feeling in the mouth or throat

Very rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people):

  • Itchy rash or skin sensitivity to sunlight
  • Difficulty breathing or wheezing

Serious allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) are very rare but require immediate medical attention if you experience swelling of the face, lips, or throat.

Warnings and Precautions

  • For oromucosal use only; do not swallow the liquid.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes. If contact occurs, rinse immediately with cold water.
  • Contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate, which may cause delayed allergic reactions.
  • Seek medical advice if symptoms do not improve after 7 days of treatment.

Storage Instructions

  • Store upright and do not store above 30°C.
  • Do not freeze or refrigerate.
  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Keep the bottle in the original carton to protect from direct sunlight.
