About Hirudoid GelHirudoid Gel is a specialized topical treatment containing heparinoid 0.3% w/w. It is formulated to treat various inflammatory conditions of the veins and to accelerate the healing of bruises. By improving blood flow and reducing swelling in the affected area, Hirudoid Gel provides effective relief from pain and tension associated with superficial soft tissue injuries and inflammatory vein conditions.Hirudoid Gel is an “oil-in-water” emulsion that provides a cooling sensation upon application, making it ideal for sensitive or inflamed skin.

What Is Hirudoid Gel Used For?

Hirudoid Gel is used to relieve pain and inflammation associated with superficial thrombophlebitis (inflammation of the veins near the skin surface) and to treat haematomas (bruising). It works by breaking down small blood clots, improving local circulation, and speeding up the disappearance of swelling and redness in damaged tissues.

Who Is Hirudoid Gel Suitable For?

Hirudoid Gel is suitable for adults and children over the age of 5.Do not use Hirudoid Gel if you:

  • Are allergic to heparinoid or any other ingredients (such as parabens)
  • Have broken skin, open wounds, or sensitive mucous membranes
  • Suffer from a skin condition like eczema or psoriasis in the treatment area

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Are using other topical medications on the same area
  • Have persistent symptoms that do not improve after 5–7 days of treatment

How to Use Hirudoid Gel

  1. Pierce the tube seal using the spiked top of the cap.
  2. Apply between 5cm and 15cm of gel to the affected area, depending on the size of the injury.
  3. Gently massage the gel into the skin until it has been fully absorbed.
  4. Wash your hands thoroughly after application.
  5. Repeat the application up to four times every 24 hours.

Do not exceed the recommended dose. If symptoms persist, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Possible Side Effects of Hirudoid Gel

Hirudoid Gel is generally well-tolerated, but some users may experience:

  • Redness of the skin (erythema)
  • Skin rash or itching
  • A burning sensation at the application site

These reactions are usually mild and disappear once treatment is stopped. If you experience a severe allergic reaction, stop use immediately and seek medical advice.

Warnings and Precautions

  • For external use on the skin only.
  • Do not apply to eyes, mouth, or other mucous membranes.
  • Stop use if skin irritation or a rash develops.

Storage Instructions

  • Store below 25°C.
  • Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use.
  • Keep out of sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use after the expiry date shown on the tube.
