Lovima Contraceptive Pill contains desogestrel 75 micrograms, a progestogen-only oral contraceptive used to prevent pregnancy. It works primarily by stopping ovulation and thickening the cervical mucus, making it more difficult for sperm to reach an egg.

Lovima is a daily mini pill suitable for women who cannot take oestrogen-containing contraceptives or prefer an oestrogen-free option. It can be taken continuously without a break between packs.

What Is Lovima Contraceptive Pill Used For?

Lovima is used for the prevention of pregnancy. It works by stopping the release of an egg from the ovaries and thickening cervical mucus to prevent sperm from entering the womb.

Who Is Lovima Contraceptive Pill Suitable For?

Lovima is suitable for women who want an oestrogen-free method of contraception.

Do not use Lovima if you:

• Are allergic to desogestrel, peanut, soya, or any of the other ingredients
• Have current or previous thrombosis (blood clots)
• Have severe liver disease or liver tumours
• Have known or suspected hormone-sensitive cancers (e.g. breast cancer)
• Have unexplained vaginal bleeding

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

• Have a history of breast cancer
• Have liver disease or diabetes
• Suffer from epilepsy or tuberculosis
• Have chloasma (brown patches on the skin)
• Have high blood pressure

How to Use Lovima Contraceptive Pill

1. Take one tablet every day at the same time.
2. Follow the arrows on the blister pack.
3. Swallow the tablet whole with water if required.
4. Start a new pack immediately after finishing the previous one, with no break.

For full protection, tablets must be taken consistently. Missing a tablet by more than 12 hours may reduce effectiveness.

Possible Side Effects of Lovima Contraceptive Pill

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 women):

• Irregular bleeding or spotting
• Headache
• Acne
• Mood changes or depressed mood
• Breast tenderness/pain
• Nausea
• Decreased sexual drive (libido)
• Weight increase

Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 women):

• Vomiting
• Hair loss
• Vaginal infection
• Ovarian cysts
• Tiredness

Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 women):

• Allergic skin reactions (rash, hives)

• Does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
• Effectiveness may be reduced with vomiting, severe diarrhoea, or some medicines (e.g., for epilepsy or tuberculosis).
• Seek medical advice if you experience severe abdominal pain, chest pain, or unusual bleeding.
