About Eloine Contraceptive Pill

Eloine is a combined hormonal contraceptive pill designed to prevent pregnancy through a reliable daily dosing routine. Each pack contains 24 light pink active tablets with ethinylestradiol (0.02 mg) and drospirenone (3 mg), followed by 4 white placebo tablets. This 24/4 dosing schedule supports stable hormone levels and predictable withdrawal bleeding.

Eloine prevents pregnancy by stopping ovulation, thickening cervical mucus, and altering the uterine lining. As a low-dose option, it is suited for women seeking consistent, reversible contraception with a regular monthly cycle.

What Is Eloine Used For?

Eloine is used to prevent pregnancy and is one of the most reliable reversible contraceptive methods when taken correctly. Its two hormones work together to stop ovulation and prevent sperm reaching the egg.

Who Is Eloine Suitable For?

Eloine is suitable for women who:

  • Need an effective daily hormonal contraceptive
  • Have started menstruation
  • Have not reached menopause

Do NOT use Eloine if you:

  • Have ever had blood clots (DVT, PE) or a clotting disorder
  • Have high risk of arterial clots, heart attack, stroke, or migraine with aura
  • Have liver disease, liver tumours, or kidney failure
  • Have breast or genital cancer (known or suspected)
  • Have unexplained vaginal bleeding
  • Are allergic to ethinylestradiol, drospirenone, or any ingredients
  • Take certain Hepatitis C antiviral medicines

Consult a doctor before use if you:

  • Have diabetes, gallbladder problems, or high triglycerides
  • Have depression or mood disorders
  • Have Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis
  • Have SLE, sickle cell anaemia, or HUS
  • Recently gave birth or are immobilised
  • Experience chloasma or angioedema

How to Take Eloine

  1. Take one tablet every day at the same time.
  2. Start with the light pink active tablets and follow the arrows on the strip.
  3. Use the day-of-the-week sticker to help track doses.
  4. After 24 active tablets, take the 4 white placebo tablets.
  5. Start the next strip immediately after finishing the placebo tablets.

If you miss a pill: Follow the leaflet guidance depending on how many hours have passed and where you are in the strip.
If vomiting/diarrhoea occurs within 3–4 hours: Take another active tablet as soon as possible.

Possible Side Effects of Eloine

Common (up to 1 in 10):

  • Mood swings
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Breast pain
  • Irregular or absent periods

Uncommon:

  • Depression, sleepiness, dizziness
  • Migraine, raised blood pressure, varicose veins
  • Vomiting, stomach pain, indigestion
  • Acne, rash, itching
  • Pelvic pain, vaginal infections, reduced libido
  • Fluid retention or weight gain

Rare but serious:

  • Blood clots (DVT, PE, heart attack, stroke)
  • Liver or gallbladder disease
  • Severe allergic reactions

Seek emergency help if you develop symptoms of blood clots or angioedema.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Stop using if you develop signs of a blood clot.
  • Do not smoke, especially if aged over 35.
  • Eloine does not protect against STIs.
  • Some medicines reduce its effectiveness—use extra contraception as advised.

Storage Instructions

  • No special storage conditions required.
  • Keep out of sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use after the expiry date.
