About Magnesium Sulphate Paste BP

Magnesium Sulphate Paste BP is a traditional topical drawing paste formulated with Dried Magnesium Sulphate BP 47.762% w/w. It is used to help draw out infected fluid from minor skin infections such as boils, carbuncles, and small abscesses. Its osmotic action helps reduce swelling and encourages natural drainage from the affected area.

This product also contains Phenol BP 0.497% w/w, which provides mild antiseptic properties. Magnesium Sulphate Paste BP is for external use only and is supplied in a 50g tube for short-term treatment of localised skin infections.

What Is Magnesium Sulphate Paste BP Used For?

Magnesium Sulphate Paste BP is used as a drawing ointment for minor skin infections. It helps to:

  • Draw out pus from boils
  • Reduce swelling in carbuncles
  • Encourage drainage from small abscesses

The high concentration of magnesium sulphate works by drawing fluid from the infected tissue to the surface of the skin.

Who Is Magnesium Sulphate Paste BP Suitable For?

Suitable for adults, the elderly, and children when used externally as directed.

Do not use if you:

  • Are allergic to magnesium sulphate, phenol, or any of the listed ingredients
  • Have extensive, severe, or spreading infections without medical advice

Seek medical advice if:

  • The condition does not improve
  • The infection worsens or becomes very painful
  • You are unsure about the nature of the skin condition

How to Use Magnesium Sulphate Paste BP

  1. Clean and dry the affected area before application.
  2. Apply a generous layer of paste directly to the skin.
  3. Cover with a clean dressing or gauze.
  4. Repeat once or twice daily as needed.

For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes.

Side effects are uncommon but may include:

  • Mild skin irritation
