SMA Anti Reflux is a nutritionally complete specialist infant milk designed for the dietary management of babies experiencing significant reflux or regurgitation (spitting up). Reflux is common in infants as their digestive systems are still maturing. This formula contains a unique combination of starch and 100% whey, partially hydrolysed protein, which helps the feed settle and stay down in the baby’s stomach.

SMA Anti Reflux can be used as the sole source of nutrition from birth and can continue to be used alongside a varied weaning diet until 12 months of age.

What Is SMA Anti Reflux Used For?

SMA Anti Reflux is specifically formulated to manage the symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux. By including precooked starch, the formula is slightly thicker than standard milk, reducing the likelihood of the baby bringing up their feed. It provides all the essential vitamins and minerals needed for healthy growth and development.

Who Is SMA Anti Reflux Suitable For?

This formula is suitable for babies from birth who are not being breastfed and suffer from frequent spit-up.

Do not use SMA Anti Reflux if your baby:

• Has a confirmed allergy to cow’s milk protein
• Is lactose intolerant
• Suffers from galactosaemia

Ingredients

Lactose (milk), Potato starch, Partially hydrolysed whey protein (milk), Vegetable oils (sunflower, coconut, rapeseed), Calcium phosphate, Magnesium chloride, Potassium chloride, L-arginine, Sodium chloride, L-histidine, Choline bitartrate, L-tyrosine, Potassium phosphate, Vitamin C, Taurine, Inositol, Ferrous sulphate, Nucleotides (cytidine-, disodium uridine-, adenosine- disodium guanosine-5’- monophosphate), L-carnitine, Zinc sulphate, Antioxidants (tocopherol rich extract, ascorbyl palmitate), Pantothenic acid, Niacin, Vitamin E, Copper sulphate, Riboflavin, Vitamin A, Thiamin, Vitamin B6, Manganese sulphate, Potassium iodide, Folic acid, Vitamin K, Sodium selenate, Biotin, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12.

How to Prepare SMA Anti Reflux

1. Wash hands and sterilise all feeding equipment according to instructions.
2. Boil 1 litre of fresh tap water and allow to cool for no more than 30 minutes.
3. Measure the required amount of water into a sterilised bottle.
4. Use only the provided scoop to add the correct number of level scoops (refer to feeding guide).
5. Place the teat and cap on the bottle and shake 5 seconds sideways and 10 seconds vertically until dissolved.
6. Cool the bottle under running water until lukewarm. Test the temperature before feeding.

Do not use a microwave to warm feeds, as this can cause “hot spots” and uneven thickening.

Possible Side Effects / Considerations

• Change in Stools: You may notice your baby’s stools become greener or change in consistency; this is normal due to the partially hydrolysed protein.
• Teat Blockage: Because this is a thickened formula, standard slow-flow teats may block; a fast-flow teat is usually required.

Warnings and Precautions

• Use only under medical supervision.
• Do not add extra powder or water to the feed, as this can make your baby ill.
• Do not add any other thickeners, antacids, or food into the bottle.
• If reflux symptoms do not improve within 2 weeks, consult your doctor.

Storage Instructions

• Store in a cool, dry place.
• Do not refrigerate the powder.
• Use within 4 weeks of opening.
• Discard any unfinished feed in the bottle within 2 hours of preparation.
