About Tamiflu Capsules

Tamiflu Capsules contain oseltamivir, a neuraminidase inhibitor used to treat and prevent influenza (flu) in adults, adolescents, children, and infants, including full-term newborns. Tamiflu works by stopping the flu virus from spreading inside the body, reducing the severity and duration of flu symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, headaches, muscle aches, and fatigue.

Tamiflu is suitable for patients who have been exposed to the flu or are experiencing symptoms during influenza outbreaks and may be prescribed in exceptional circumstances for prevention during pandemics.

What Is Tamiflu Used For?

Tamiflu is used to treat influenza (flu) by reducing the spread of the virus and alleviating symptoms. It can also be used to prevent flu after exposure, especially during outbreaks or in high-risk individuals.

Who Is Tamiflu Suitable For?

Tamiflu is suitable for adults, adolescents, children, and infants, including full-term newborns.

Do not take Tamiflu if you:

• Are allergic to oseltamivir or any other ingredient in the capsules

Consult your doctor before use if you:

• Have kidney problems
• Have a weakened immune system
• Have chronic heart or lung conditions
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Take other medicines such as methotrexate, chlorpropamide, probenecid, or phenylbutazone

How to Use Tamiflu

1. Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
2. Swallow capsules whole with water; do not crush or chew.
3. For treating flu: one capsule twice daily for 5 days (10-day course if immune system is weak).
4. For preventing flu: one capsule daily for the duration advised by your doctor.
5. Start treatment as soon as possible, ideally within 48 hours of symptom onset.

Possible Side Effects of Tamiflu

Common side effects:

• Nausea and vomiting
• Diarrhoea
• Headache

Uncommon/Rare side effects:

• Neuropsychiatric effects, such as mood or behaviour changes (especially in children)
• Seizures or hallucinations (very rare)

Warnings and Precautions

• Do not exceed the prescribed dose.
• Inform your doctor if you experience unusual behaviour or mood changes.
• Use caution in patients with kidney problems; dose adjustment may be necessary.
• Tamiflu is not a substitute for the flu vaccine.
