Vimovo MR Tablets are a prescription-only combination medicine containing naproxen 500 mg and esomeprazole 20 mg in a modified-release tablet. This dual-action formulation is designed to relieve pain and inflammation while helping to protect the stomach lining from NSAID-related irritation and ulcers.

Naproxen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces pain, swelling, redness, and stiffness in inflammatory joint conditions. Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces stomach acid production, lowering the risk of gastric and duodenal ulcers associated with long-term NSAID use.

What Are Vimovo MR Tablets Used For?

Vimovo MR Tablets are used for the relief of pain and inflammation in chronic inflammatory joint conditions, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. They are specifically prescribed for patients who need long-term NSAID therapy and have an increased risk of stomach or intestinal ulcers.

Who Are Vimovo MR Tablets Suitable For?

Vimovo MR Tablets are suitable for adults aged 18 years and over.

Do not take Vimovo if you:

• Are allergic to naproxen, esomeprazole, or other NSAIDs
• Have active stomach or intestinal ulcers or bleeding
• Have severe liver, kidney, or heart problems
• Are in the last 3 months of pregnancy
• Are taking atazanavir or nelfinavir

Speak to your doctor before taking Vimovo if you:

• Have a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding
• Have heart disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes
• Have kidney or liver impairment
• Have inflammatory bowel disease
• Are taking blood thinners, corticosteroids, SSRIs, or other NSAIDs

How to Take Vimovo MR Tablets

1. Take one tablet twice daily as prescribed.
2. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
3. Take at least 30 minutes before food.
4. Do not chew, crush, or split the tablet.

Vimovo is not suitable for rapid pain relief, as the modified-release formulation takes several hours to work.

Possible Side Effects of Vimovo MR Tablets

Common side effects may include:

• Headache or dizziness
• Indigestion, heartburn, or stomach pain
• Nausea or diarrhoea

Serious side effects (seek urgent medical attention):

• Black stools or vomiting blood
