About Yacella Contraceptive Pill

Yacella Contraceptive Pill is a combined oral contraceptive tablet that helps prevent pregnancy when taken correctly. Each film-coated tablet contains two female sex hormones: ethinylestradiol 0.03mg and drospirenone 3mg, which work together to stop ovulation, thicken cervical mucus, and thin the lining of the womb to reduce the chance of fertilization and implantation.

Yacella is designed for women who want a reliable, reversible method of contraception taken once daily. It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Yacella is supplied as:

  • Blister strips containing 21 film-coated tablets
  • Packs of 3 blister strips (63 tablets total)

What Is Yacella Contraceptive Pill Used For?

Yacella is used to prevent pregnancy by stopping the release of an egg from the ovaries, thickening cervical mucus to prevent sperm from reaching the egg, and changing the lining of the womb to reduce the chance of implantation.

Who Is Yacella Contraceptive Pill Suitable For?

Yacella is suitable for women who have started their periods and want a daily oral method of contraception.

Do not use Yacella if you:

  • Have or have ever had a blood clot in the legs, lungs, or other organs
  • Have a known blood clotting disorder
  • Have had a heart attack, stroke, or angina
  • Have severe liver or kidney disease
  • Have liver tumours or hormone-sensitive cancers (such as breast or genital cancers)
  • Have unexplained vaginal bleeding
  • Have migraine with aura
  • Are allergic to ethinylestradiol, drospirenone, or any ingredients
  • Have Hepatitis C and are taking certain antiviral medicines

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Have diabetes, depression, epilepsy, or high blood pressure
  • Have Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis
  • Have varicose veins or recently gave birth
  • Smoke and are over 35 years old

How to Use Yacella Contraceptive Pill

  1. Take one tablet every day at the same time.
  2. Follow the arrows and days printed on the blister strip.
  3. Take tablets for 21 consecutive days.
  4. Have a 7-day break with no tablets.
  5. Start the next strip on day 8, even if bleeding is still present.

If you miss a tablet and it is more than 12 hours late, protection may be reduced and additional contraception (such as condoms) may be required.

Possible Side Effects of Yacella Contraceptive Pill

Common side effects:

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Breast pain or tenderness
  • Mood changes or low mood
  • Bleeding between periods

Uncommon:

  • Acne or skin rash
  • Vomiting or diarrhoea
  • Weight changes and fluid retention

Rare but serious:

  • Blood clots in the legs (DVT) or lungs (PE)
  • Stroke or heart attack
  • Severe liver problems

Warnings and Precautions

  • Yacella slightly increases the risk of blood clots.
  • Smoking increases the risk of serious side effects.
  • Does not protect against HIV or other sexually transmitted infections.
  • Tell your doctor about all medicines or herbal products you take, including St John’s wort.

Storage Instructions

  • This medicine does not require special storage conditions.
  • Keep out of sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use after the expiry date.
