Cilique Contraceptive Pill is a combined oral contraceptive tablet that contains two female hormones: norgestimate 250 micrograms and ethinylestradiol 35 micrograms. It is used to prevent pregnancy by stopping ovulation, thickening cervical mucus, and changing the lining of the womb to make it harder for sperm to reach an egg or for a fertilised egg to implant.

Cilique is a 21-day combined pill, meaning you take one tablet every day for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break when no tablets are taken.

Who Is Cilique Contraceptive Pill Suitable For?

Cilique may be suitable for many healthy adult women who need effective birth control.

Do not use Cilique if you:

• Have or have had blood clots in the legs, lungs, or other organs
• Have had a heart attack, stroke, or angina
• Have severe liver disease or liver cancer
• Have breast cancer or hormone-dependent cancer
• Have migraine with aura
• Have unexplained vaginal bleeding
• Are allergic to any of its ingredients

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

• Have high blood pressure, diabetes, or circulation problems
• Have liver or gallbladder disease
• Have Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis
• Have migraines, depression, or a history of blood clots
• Have recently given birth or had surgery

How to Take Cilique Contraceptive Pill

1. Take one tablet at the same time every day.
2. Follow the arrows on the blister strip.
3. Take tablets for 21 consecutive days.
4. Have a 7-day tablet-free break.
5. Start the next strip after 7 days, even if bleeding continues.

If you miss a tablet:

• If less than 12 hours late – take it as soon as possible and continue as normal.
• If more than 12 hours late – protection may be reduced and additional contraception may be needed.

Possible Side Effects of Cilique Contraceptive Pill

Very common:

• Headache
• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea
• Irregular bleeding or spotting

Common:

• Migraine
• Breast tenderness
• Mood changes or depression
• Weight gain
• Acne

Serious (seek urgent medical help):

• Symptoms of blood clots (leg pain/swelling, chest pain, sudden breathlessness)
• Severe abdominal pain
• Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)

Warnings and Precautions

• May slightly increase the risk of blood clots.
• Smoking increases the risk of serious side effects, especially over age 35.
• Does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
• Contains lactose.
