Flomaxtra XL contains tamsulosin hydrochloride 400 micrograms in a prolonged-release formulation. It is an alpha1A-adrenoceptor blocker specifically designed to treat the symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as an enlarged prostate. By relaxing the smooth muscles in the prostate and the urethra, Flomaxtra XL helps urine flow more freely and reduces the discomfort associated with urinary retention.

What Is Flomaxtra XL Used For?

Flomaxtra XL is used to alleviate lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) caused by an enlarged prostate (BPH). It effectively treats difficulties such as a weak urinary stream, hesitancy (difficulty starting to urinate), frequent urges to go (especially at night), and the sensation that the bladder has not emptied completely.

Who Is Flomaxtra XL Suitable For?

Flomaxtra XL is indicated for adult men suffering from BPH. It is not intended for use by women or children.

Do not use Flomaxtra XL if you:

• Are allergic to tamsulosin or any other ingredients in the tablet
• Have severe liver disease
• Have a history of fainting or dizziness when suddenly sitting or standing up (orthostatic hypotension)

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

• Have severe kidney problems
• Are scheduled for eye surgery (cataract or glaucoma surgery), as Flomaxtra can affect the iris during the procedure
• Are taking other alpha1-blockers or medicines that affect blood pressure

How to Use Flomaxtra XL

1. Take exactly one tablet every day at the same time.
2. Swallow the tablet whole with water or another liquid.
3. Do not crush or chew the tablet, as it is designed to release the medicine slowly over 24 hours.
4. If you forget a dose, you may take it later that day. If you miss a full day, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule.

Possible Side Effects of Flomaxtra XL

Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

• Dizziness (particularly when sitting or standing up)
• Ejaculation disorders (such as retrograde ejaculation or ejaculation failure)

Uncommon:

• Headache or palpitations
• Runny or blocked nose
• Gastrointestinal issues like nausea, vomiting, or constipation
• Rash or itching

Rare/Very Rare:

• Fainting (syncope)
• Severe allergic reactions (angioedema) involving swelling of the face or throat
• Priapism (a persistent and painful erection unrelated to sexual activity)

Warnings and Precautions

• Dizziness: If you feel weak or dizzy, sit or lie down immediately until symptoms pass.
• Surgery: Inform your eye surgeon if you are taking this medication, as it may cause “Floppy Iris Syndrome.”
• Driving: Use caution as Flomaxtra can cause blurred vision, drowsiness, or dizziness.

• Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
• Store in the original package.
• This medicine does not require any special temperature storage conditions.
• Do not use after the expiry date (EXP) shown on the carton.
