Gaviscon Infant Sachets are used to relieve reflux and regurgitation in babies and young children. The alginate ingredients form a gentle gel in the stomach, helping feeds stay down and reducing discomfort.

They are used in infants and young children to treat:

  • Frequent regurgitation (bringing up milk or feeds)
  • Reflux and associated discomfort

How do Gaviscon Infant Sachets work?

When mixed and taken, the sodium alginate and magnesium alginate form a gel in the stomach. This thickens stomach contents and reduces reflux, helping to keep feeds down.

Who are Gaviscon Infant Sachets suitable for?

Gaviscon Infant is suitable for:

  • Infants aged 1–2 years with reflux symptoms
  • Infants under 1 year only if advised by a doctor

Not suitable for:

  • Premature infants
  • Children over 2 years of age
  • Babies with kidney problems or on a low-sodium diet
  • Anyone allergic to the listed ingredients

How to give Gaviscon Infant Sachets

  1. Babies under 4.5kg: 1 sachet per dose.
  2. Babies over 4.5kg: 2 sachets per dose.
  3. Bottle-fed: Mix sachet(s) into 115ml (4 fl oz) of feed, shake well and feed as normal.
  4. Breast-fed: Mix each sachet with 5ml cooled boiled water to a paste, then add 10ml more water and give part-way through the feed.
  5. Use immediately after preparation. Do not give more than 6 times in 24 hours.

Gaviscon Infant Sachets Side Effects

Most infants tolerate Gaviscon Infant well, but side effects can occur.

Very Rare Side Effects

  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea

Other Possible Effects (frequency unknown)

  • Skin rash
  • Bloating or gastric discomfort
