What is Lenzetto used for?

Lenzetto is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) used to relieve symptoms caused by falling oestrogen levels after menopause. It is prescribed for postmenopausal women who are at least 6 months past their last natural period, and for women who have had surgery to remove their ovaries.

Lenzetto will only be prescribed if your symptoms are significantly affecting your daily life.

Symptoms of oestrogen deficiency that Lenzetto can help with include:

  • Hot flushes and night sweats
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Irritability and mood changes
  • Vaginal dryness

Lenzetto is not a contraceptive. If you are under 50 or fewer than 12 months have passed since your last period, you may still need additional contraception. Speak to your doctor for advice.

How does Lenzetto work?

Lenzetto contains estradiol, a form of oestrogen that is identical to the hormone naturally produced by your body. When you spray it onto your skin, estradiol is absorbed from the skin into your bloodstream, where it replaces some of the oestrogen your body has stopped producing.

This rise in oestrogen levels helps to ease menopause symptoms that happen when levels drop, like hot flushes, night sweats, and sleep disturbance.

If you still have your womb, your doctor will prescribe a separate progestogen alongside Lenzetto. Taking oestrogen alone can cause the lining of the womb to thicken over time, which increases the risk of endometrial cancer. Progesterone counteracts this effect and makes the treatment safe for women who have not had a hysterectomy.

Who can use Lenzetto?

Lenzetto is suitable for postmenopausal women with at least 6 months since their last natural period, and for women who have had surgery to remove their ovaries.

Do not use Lenzetto if you:

  • Have or have ever had breast cancer, or are suspected of having it
  • Have or are suspected of having an oestrogen-sensitive cancer, such as cancer of the womb lining (endometrial cancer)
  • Have any unexplained vaginal bleeding
  • Have untreated excessive thickening of the womb lining (endometrial hyperplasia)
  • Have or have ever had a blood clot in a vein (thrombosis), such as deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism
  • Have a blood clotting disorder, such as protein C, protein S or antithrombin deficiency
  • Have or recently had a disease caused by blood clots in the arteries, such as a heart attack, stroke or angina
  • Have or have ever had a liver disease where your liver function tests have not returned to normal
  • Have a rare inherited blood problem called porphyria
  • Are allergic to estradiol or any of the other ingredients

Speak to your doctor before using Lenzetto if you have or have ever had:

  • Fibroids in the womb
  • Endometriosis or a history of endometrial hyperplasia
  • An increased risk of blood clots
  • A family history of oestrogen-sensitive cancers, such as breast cancer
  • High blood pressure
  • A liver disorder, such as a benign liver tumour
  • Diabetes
  • Gallstones
  • Migraines or severe headaches
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
  • Epilepsy
  • Asthma
  • Otosclerosis (a condition affecting hearing)
  • Very high levels of fat in the blood (triglycerides)
  • Fluid retention due to heart or kidney problems
  • Hereditary or acquired angioedema

How to Use Lenzetto HRT Spray

Before using a new container, the pump should be primed by spraying three times with the cover on. You only need to do this once per container. If you miss one or more doses, re-prime with one spray (cover on) before continuing.

  1. Make sure the skin on your inner forearm is clean and dry. If needed, you can use your inner thigh instead. Do not apply to your breasts or broken skin.
  2. Remove the plastic cover and hold the container upright.
  3. Rest the cone flat against your skin, making sure there are no gaps.
  4. Press the button fully and hold it down before releasing.
  5. For additional sprays, move the cone along your arm to an unsprayed area of the same or opposite forearm and repeat.
  6. Replace the cover when finished.

Do not rub or massage the spray into the skin.

Let the spray dry for at least 2 minutes before getting dressed and 60 minutes before bathing. If Lenzetto gets onto your hands or anywhere else, wash with soap and water straight away. Keep others, especially children, away from the treated area until it has dried.

Lenzetto Dosage

Your doctor will start you on one spray per day, increasing to a maximum of three sprays if needed. Apply your daily dose at the same time each day and review your treatment with your doctor every 3 to 6 months.

If you forget to use the spray, apply it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is due soon, skip the missed one. Do not double-dose.

Lenzetto Spray FAQs

Each spray of Lenzetto contains 1.53 mg of estradiol, while each pump of Oestrogel delivers 0.75 mg. Both are forms of oestrogen replacement, but Lenzetto contains a higher dose of oestrogen per application than other oestrogen-only HRT products. That said, the right dose for you will depend on your symptoms and your doctor’s assessment; both products are titrated to the lowest effective dose.

The inner forearm is the recommended site. If this is not practical, the inner thigh can be used instead. Do not apply Lenzetto to the breasts, broken skin, or any area near the breasts.

Both Lenzetto and HRT patches deliver estradiol transdermally, so the hormone itself works in the same way. The difference is the format. Lenzetto is a metered-dose spray applied daily to the skin, while patches are adhesive and changed every few days. The best option depends on personal preference and your doctor’s recommendation. Some women prefer a spray as there is no patch to adhere to the skin, while others find patches more convenient.

Weight changes (both increase and decrease) are listed as common side effects of Lenzetto, meaning they may affect up to 1 in 10 people. If you notice significant changes in your weight after starting treatment, speak to your doctor.

You can order Lenzetto through our online menopause clinic at Click2Pharmacy. Complete a short consultation and our licensed pharmacists will review your request. If suitable, your treatment will be dispensed and delivered to your door quickly and discreetly.

You should wait at least 60 minutes after applying Lenzetto before bathing, showering or swimming. Washing the area too soon may affect how much estradiol is absorbed through the skin. Allow at least 2 minutes for the spray to dry before getting dressed.

The most important thing is to apply it at the same time every day. Choose a time that works for your routine; some women prefer mornings as part of a skincare routine, while others find it easier at night.

Apply the spray as soon as you remember. If your next dose is due soon, skip the missed dose and continue as normal. Do not apply a double dose. If you have missed one or more doses, re-prime the pump with one spray (with the cover on) before your next dose.
