About Mepilex Lite Dressing

Mepilex Lite is a thin and highly conformable foam dressing specifically designed for the management of wounds with little to no drainage. Measuring 10 x 10cm, it features Safetac® technology, a unique soft silicone adhesive layer that seals the wound margins to prevent exudate from leaking onto the surrounding skin. This specialized design minimizes the risk of maceration and ensures that dressing changes are virtually painless, as the silicone does not adhere to the moist wound bed.

Mepilex Lite is widely used to treat acute and chronic wounds while providing a protective, cushioned barrier for compromised or fragile skin.

What Is Mepilex Lite Dressing Used For?

Mepilex Lite is intended for the management of non-to-low exuding wounds, including leg and foot ulcers, pressure sores, partial-thickness burns, and traumatic wounds like skin tears. It is clinically proven to reduce the severity of skin reactions caused by radiotherapy and acts as a protective shield for very sensitive or “paper-thin” skin.

Who Is Mepilex Lite Suitable For?

Mepilex Lite is suitable for individuals with sensitive skin or chronic wounds that require a moist healing environment without the trauma associated with traditional adhesive dressings.

Do not use Mepilex Lite if you:

  • Have a known sensitivity or allergy to silicone or polyurethane

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Notice signs of clinical infection (redness, swelling, or odor)
  • Are using oxidizing agents like hydrogen peroxide or hypochlorite solutions

How to Use Mepilex Lite

  1. Gently cleanse the wound area and ensure the surrounding skin is completely dry.
  2. The 10 x 10cm dressing can be cut to fit specific wound shapes if required.
  3. Peel back the first release film and apply the sticky side to the wound.
  4. Remove the remaining film and smooth the dressing down gently; do not stretch the material.
  5. Fixate with a secondary bandage or tape if required for the location.

The dressing can be lifted and adjusted during application without losing its adherent properties.

Possible Side Effects of Mepilex Lite

While generally very well tolerated, rare occurrences may include:

  • Localized skin irritation if applied to infected wounds without clinical oversight
  • Maceration (skin softening) if used on high-exuding wounds beyond its capacity

If you experience a rash or allergic reaction, remove the dressing immediately.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Do not reuse; this is a single-use sterile product.
  • Do not use in conjunction with oxidizing agents (e.g., hydrogen peroxide).
  • Consult a doctor if the wound shows signs of infection (fever or increased pain).
  • Always store the product in dry conditions below 35°C.

Storage Instructions

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Do not use if the inner sterile packaging is damaged or opened.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
