About Mepore Self-Adhesive Dressing

Mepore Self-Adhesive Dressing is a sterile, air-permeable island dressing designed for the management of low to moderately exuding wounds. It features a highly absorbent viscose wound pad with a low-adherent layer to prevent the dressing from sticking to the wound bed, ensuring trauma-free removal. The breathable, flexible polyester non-woven backing allows for natural body movement while providing a protective barrier against external contaminants. Mepore is suitable for both clinical and home use and is available in various sizes to accommodate different wound dimensions:

  • Mepore Self-Adhesive Dressing – 7cm x 8cm
  • Mepore Self-Adhesive Dressing – 10cm x 11cm

What Is Mepore Self-Adhesive Dressing Used For?

Mepore is specifically designed to protect and manage acute wounds with low to moderate levels of fluid (exudate). This includes post-operative surgical sites, minor lacerations, abrasions, and small burns. It provides a physical barrier against dirt and bacteria while allowing the skin to breathe through its porous structure.

Who Is Mepore Self-Adhesive Dressing Suitable For?

Mepore is suitable for most adults and children. Its water-based, solvent-free adhesive is designed to be gentle on the skin, making it appropriate for those with standard skin sensitivity. Do not use Mepore if you:

  • Have a known hypersensitivity or allergy to acrylic adhesives

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Have extremely fragile or easily damaged skin
  • Observe signs of infection, such as fever, redness, warmth, or swelling around the wound
  • Are using the dressing on a joint where excessive tension might occur

How to Apply Mepore Self-Adhesive Dressing

  1. Clean the wound thoroughly and ensure the surrounding skin is completely dry. Avoid using creams or ointments that may interfere with adhesion.
  2. Open the sterile packaging and remove the dressing.
  3. Grip the two overlapping release papers to expose the sticky surface.
  4. Place the absorbent pad directly over the wound. Do not stretch the dressing during application.
  5. Gently remove the remaining papers and press the adhesive border firmly against the skin for a secure seal.

To remove, grasp one edge and slowly peel the dressing in the direction of hair growth.

Possible Side Effects of Mepore

While generally well-tolerated, some users may experience:

  • Skin irritation or redness (if sensitive to the adhesive)
  • Skin trauma or shearing if the dressing is applied under too much tension

If you notice persistent irritation or signs of infection, consult a medical professional immediately.

Warnings and Precautions

  • For external use only.
  • Do not apply under tension, as this can cause skin blistering or damage.
  • When used on joints, ensure the dressing does not restrict movement or flexibility.
  • Do not reuse; Mepore is a single-use sterile product.
  • If the wound shows signs of heavy bleeding or infection, seek medical advice.

Storage Instructions

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use if the individual sterile wrapper is damaged.

Important Information

  • Always choose a dressing size that allows the central pad to fully cover the wound.
  • Change the dressing before it becomes fully saturated or if leakage occurs.
  • Ensure the skin is free from oils and lotions before application to guarantee the best stick.
