About Norgeston Contraceptive Pill

Norgeston Contraceptive Pill is a progestogen-only oral contraceptive (mini pill) containing levonorgestrel 30 micrograms per tablet. It is used to prevent pregnancy and is taken every day without a break between packs. Norgeston works by thickening cervical mucus to prevent sperm from reaching the egg, altering the lining of the womb, and in some women, stopping ovulation.

Norgeston Contraceptive Pill is suitable for women of reproductive age who require a daily, oestrogen-free method of contraception.

Norgeston is supplied in:

  • 35-day memo strip (35 tablets per pack)

What Is Norgeston Contraceptive Pill Used For?

Norgeston Contraceptive Pill is used for long term daily hormonal contraception to prevent pregnancy. It offers continuous protection when taken correctly and at the same time every day.

Who Is Norgeston Suitable For?

Norgeston is suitable for women who need an oestrogen-free contraceptive option.

Do not take Norgeston if you:

  • Are pregnant or think you may be pregnant
  • Have current or previous breast cancer
  • Have severe liver disease or liver tumours
  • Have unexplained vaginal bleeding
  • Have a history of blood clots, stroke, or heart attack
  • Have severe diabetes with blood vessel damage
  • Are allergic to levonorgestrel or any of the ingredients

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Have diabetes
  • Have had an ectopic pregnancy
  • Have ovarian cysts
  • Have had jaundice or severe itching
  • Have chloasma (pigmentation patches)
  • Experience depression or mood changes

How to Take Norgeston Contraceptive Pill

  1. Take one tablet every day at the same time each day.
  2. Follow the arrows and day markings on the strip.
  3. Swallow the tablet whole with water if needed.
  4. There should be no break between packs.

If you are less than 3 hours late taking a tablet, take it as soon as you remember.
If you are more than 3 hours late or miss a tablet, use extra contraception (such as condoms) for the next 7 days.

Possible Side Effects of Norgeston

Common side effects may include:

  • Irregular bleeding or spotting
  • Missed periods
  • Headache or migraine
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Weight changes

Other possible effects:

  • Depressed mood
  • Reduced sex drive
  • Allergic skin reactions

Seek urgent medical help if you notice symptoms of a blood clot, severe allergic reaction, breast changes, or liver problems.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  • Tablets must be taken at the same time each day
  • Use extra contraception if vomiting or severe diarrhoea occurs
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking
