About Paracetamol Suppositories

What Are Paracetamol Suppositories Used For?

Paracetamol Suppositories are used for the treatment of mild to moderate pain, including headaches, migraines, neuralgia, toothache, sore throats, and period pain. They are also highly effective as an antipyretic to reduce fever and discomfort associated with colds, influenza, and post-immunisation infections.

Who Are Paracetamol Suppositories Suitable For?

Suppositories are ideal for patients who cannot take oral medication due to swallowing difficulties, throat infections, or persistent vomiting.

Do not use Paracetamol Suppositories if you:

  • Are allergic to paracetamol or the ingredient Hard Fat
  • Are already taking any other paracetamol-containing products

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Have severe liver or kidney problems
  • Suffer from alcohol abuse or malnutrition
  • Have a history of asthma sensitive to aspirin
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

How to Use Paracetamol Suppositories

  1. Wash your hands and ensure your bowels are empty if possible.
  2. Remove the suppository from the plastic/foil wrapping.
  3. Lie on your side with one knee bent and gently insert the pointed end of the suppository into the rectum.
  4. Wash your hands again after use.
  5. Try to remain still for a few minutes to allow the medication to melt and be absorbed.

Do not use for more than 3 days without consulting a doctor.

Possible Side Effects of Paracetamol Suppositories

Side effects are rare when used at the correct dose:

  • Skin rashes or itching
  • Soreness in the rectal area

Rare/Serious:

  • Blood disorders (e.g., thrombocytopenia)
