Syndol Tablets are used for the short-term treatment of acute moderate pain when other painkillers like paracetamol, ibuprofen, or aspirin haven’t worked. They are particularly effective for treating headaches, including tension headaches, migraines, neuralgia, period pain, toothache, and muscle pain.
Syndol Tablets work by combining four ingredients to provide effective pain relief.
Paracetamol and caffeine work together to reduce pain and increase the overall effectiveness of the medication, helping you feel better faster.
Codeine phosphate is added to specifically target and alleviate moderate pain that might not be managed by other painkillers alone.
Doxylamine succinate helps to ease tension and promotes relaxation, addressing both the physical pain and the discomfort that often comes with it.
This well-rounded approach makes Syndol effective for various types of pain, including headaches and muscle aches.
Syndol is intended for adults and children over 12 years of age.
It should only be used for short-term treatment, not exceeding three days.
Do not take Syndol if you:
Consult your pharmacist or doctor if you have any pre-existing health conditions or are taking other medications.
Adults and children over 16 years: Take 1 to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours as needed. Do not exceed 8 tablets in 24 hours.
Children aged 12 to 15 years: Take 1 tablet every 6 hours, up to a maximum of 4 tablets in 24 hours.
Syndol should not be taken for more than 3 consecutive days without consulting your pharmacist or doctor, as prolonged use can lead to codeine addiction and withdrawal symptoms.
Like all medications, Syndol may cause side effects, though not everyone experiences them.
If you experience any severe side effects, stop taking Syndol and call NHS 111 or go to A&E.
For a full list of side effects, read the Syndol Tablets Patient Information Leaflet.
If you experience any side effects, tell your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects not listed here. You can report side effects directly via the Yellow Card Scheme. Reporting side effects helps provide more information on the safety of this medicine.
If Syndol Tablets are not suitable for you, there are other options available for pain relief:
Always consult with your doctor or pharmacist to choose the most appropriate alternative based on your specific needs and medical history.
Each tablet contains:
Other ingredients include lactose, povidone, and the colourings sunset yellow (E110) and quinoline yellow (E104).
“If you’re struggling with acute pain that other painkillers haven’t managed, Syndol Tablets are a good choice. The blend of paracetamol and codeine provides effective pain relief, while doxylamine helps reduce muscle tension”
No, Syndol is not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the last trimester.
Yes, you can become addicted to Syndol because it contains the active ingredient codeine, which has the potential to cause addiction if used continuously for more than three days. Follow the dosage instructions carefully to minimise this risk.
In the UK, you can buy Syndol Tablets online from licensed pharmacies like Click2Pharmacy without a prescription.
Yes, Syndol Tablets can make you drowsy. This is due to the presence of doxylamine succinate, an antihistamine known for its sedative effects. The drowsiness can vary depending on individual sensitivity, so you should avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how Syndol affects you. If you experience significant drowsiness, consult your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
No, it’s not safe to drink alcohol while taking Syndol. Both alcohol and Syndol can make you very drowsy, and mixing them can make this effect even stronger, which can be dangerous. It can also cause dizziness and affect your breathing. Combining alcohol and Syndol can put a strain on your liver, especially since Syndol contains paracetamol. To stay safe, it’s best to avoid alcohol while using Syndol.
Yes, Syndol Tablets can be used following surgery or dental procedures to provide fast and effective relief for pain which is not relieved by other painkillers.
Generally, it is recommended to wait for at least 24 to 48 hours after the effects of general anaesthesia or morphine have fully worn off before considering the use of Syndol. However, this timing can vary, so you must consult your doctor, dentist or pharmacist for personalised advice. They will be able to assess your specific situation and determine when it is safe for you to start taking Syndol Tablets.
