What Is Zithromax Used For?

Zithromax is used to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. Within sexual health services, it is widely prescribed for the treatment of chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis). It may also be used for chest, throat, ear, skin, and soft tissue infections when clinically appropriate.

Who Is Zithromax Suitable For?

Zithromax Capsules are suitable for adults and adolescents weighing more than 45 kg.

Do not take Zithromax if you:

• Are allergic to azithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics
• Are allergic to any of the listed ingredients

Speak to a healthcare professional before taking Zithromax if you:

• Have liver or kidney problems
• Have heart rhythm problems or a history of QT prolongation
• Have low potassium or magnesium levels
• Have myasthenia gravis
• Are taking medicines such as warfarin, digoxin, ciclosporin, or antacids

How to Take Zithromax

1. Take the capsules exactly as prescribed.
2. Swallow capsules whole with water.
3. Take on an empty stomach – 1 hour before or 2 hours after food.
4. Complete the full course, even if symptoms improve.

Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

Possible Side Effects of Zithromax

Common side effects:

Uncommon:
