What Are Kwells Tablets Used For?

Kwells tablets are used to prevent and relieve the symptoms of travel sickness, such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and feeling unwell during motion. They work by calming signals in the brain that trigger nausea when confused by movement – for example, when your inner ear senses motion but your eyes do not.

Who Can Use Kwells Tablets?

Kwells Tablets are suitable for adults and children over 10 years old who experience travel sickness during journeys by car, plane, or boat.

However, you should avoid taking them if you:

  • Have glaucoma
  • Suffer from myasthenia gravis
  • Have an enlarged prostate
  • Have blockage of the intestines or a narrowed stomach outlet
  • Are allergic to hyoscine hydrobromide or any of the other ingredients listed in the patient information leaflet

Before taking, speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, over 60, or have existing medical conditions like epilepsy, Down’s syndrome, or liver/kidney issues.

How to Take Kwells Travel Sickness Tablets

Kwells Travel Sickness Tablets can be taken up to 30 minutes before travel or at the onset of symptoms. If needed, repeat the dose every 6 to 8 hours, but do not take more than three tablets in 24 hours.

You can suck, chew or swallow the tablets whole, with or without water. They have a scoreline so can be halved if necessary.

Alongside taking Kwells tablets, try the following to help reduce your chances of feeling unwell while travelling:

  • Sit with your head tilted back to steady your inner ear balance
  • Ensure good ventilation in the vehicle
  • Try to look at the horizon or a fixed point ahead
  • Avoid reading or using screens during travel
  • Eat a light, non-greasy meal before you set off
  • Avoid strong smells, including food, perfume and petrol

Side Effects

Like all medications, Kwells can cause side effects in some people.

Common side effects include:

  • Drowsiness or dizziness
  • Dry mouth
  • Blurred vision or dilated pupils
  • Feeling restless or confused (more likely in elderly users)

In rare cases, hallucinations or allergic reactions such as rash or difficulty breathing may occur. If any side effects are severe or persistent, stop taking the tablets and seek medical advice.

You should avoid alcohol while taking Kwells as it may increase drowsiness.

Please consult the patient information leaflet for full details.
