About Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment

Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment is a preservative-free lubricating ointment designed to treat the symptoms of dry eyes, including soreness, burning, irritation, and dryness. Formulated with a soothing blend of white soft paraffin, mineral oil, and lanolin alcohols, it works by forming a protective barrier over the eye to lock in moisture and prevent tear evaporation. It provides intense, long-lasting relief, making it especially ideal for night-time use or for those who suffer from recurrent corneal epithelial erosion.

Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment is suitable for adults, the elderly, and children, and is available in one pack size:

  • Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment – 3.5g tube
Medication Name Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment 3.5g

What Is Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment Used For?

Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment is used to relieve the uncomfortable symptoms associated with dry eye syndrome, such as burning, itching, redness, and a gritty feeling. By creating a thick, protective layer over the eye, it lubricates the surface and prevents moisture loss. Because it stays in the eye longer than standard eye drops, it is highly beneficial for overnight relief and for protecting the eyeball from further irritation while you sleep.

Who Is Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment Suitable For?

Lacri-Lube is suitable for adults, the elderly, and children. It can also be safely used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Do not use Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment if you:

  • Are allergic to wool alcohols (lanolin), paraffin, or any other listed ingredients
  • Have broken skin around the eye area

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Wear contact lenses (lenses must be removed prior to application and can be reinserted after 30 minutes)
  • Are currently using other eye medications or drops (Lacri-Lube should be applied last, leaving at least a 5-minute gap)

How to Use Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly before applying the ointment.
  2. Twist off the cap, being careful not to let the nozzle touch any surface, including your eye, to avoid contamination.
  3. Tilt your head backward and gently pull down your lower eyelid to form a small pocket.
  4. Hold the tube upside down and gently squeeze a small strip of ointment into the gap between your eye and eyelid.
  5. Close your eyes gently and blink normally a few times to spread the ointment. Do not rub your eyes.
  6. Replace the cap tightly immediately after use.

The ointment can be used as often as needed, but due to its thick consistency, it is best used at night just before bedtime.

Possible Side Effects of Lacri-Lube Eye Ointment

Common side effects:

  • Temporary blurred vision immediately after application (typically lasts 1 to 15 minutes)

Rare side effects:

  • Allergic-type reactions such as local skin irritation, contact dermatitis, redness, or swelling of the eyelid
  • Mild eye pain, itching, or increased tear production

If you experience severe irritation, eye pain, or persistent changes in vision, discontinue use and consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Warnings and Precautions

  • For external ophthalmic use only. Do not swallow.
  • Because it causes short-term blurring of vision, do not drive or operate machinery until your vision has completely cleared.
  • Do not allow the tip of the tube to touch the eye or surrounding areas to prevent eye injury and contamination.
  • If your dry eye symptoms persist or worsen after a few days of treatment, seek medical advice.

Storage Instructions

  • Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C.
  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use.
  • Discard the tube 28 days (4 weeks) after first opening to prevent the risk of eye infections.
