About Carbomer Eye Gel

Carbomer Eye Gel 0.2% w/w is a high-viscosity lubricating eye treatment designed to provide long-lasting relief from the symptoms of dry eye syndrome. It contains the active ingredient carbomer 980, a synthetic polymer that clings to the surface of the eye to form a transparent, moistening film. This mimics the action of natural tears, helping to soothe grittiness, irritation, and soreness caused by environmental factors like air conditioning, screen use, or wind.

This cooling gel is suitable for adults, the elderly, and children, offering a thicker consistency than standard eye drops to ensure the lubrication stays in place for longer.

What Is Carbomer Eye Gel Used For?

Carbomer Eye Gel is used as a tear substitute to manage dry eye conditions, including keratoconjunctivitis sicca. It provides immediate hydration and a soothing effect for “tired eyes” caused by prolonged computer use, central heating, or wearing contact lenses. By stabilising the tear film, it prevents the cornea from drying out and protects the eye from further irritation.

Who Is Carbomer Eye Gel Suitable For?

Carbomer Eye Gel is suitable for people of all ages experiencing dry or irritated eyes.

Do not use Carbomer Eye Gel if you:

  • Are allergic to carbomer or any of the other ingredients (such as cetrimide)

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Experience eye pain or sudden changes in vision
  • Have persistent eye redness or worsening irritation
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding (consult your GP first)
  • Have any other underlying eye conditions or infections

How to Use Carbomer Eye Gel

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly before application.
  2. Tilt your head back and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
  3. Hold the tube vertically above the eye and squeeze gently to release one drop into the pocket.
  4. Do not touch the tip of the tube against your eye, eyelashes, or any surface to avoid contamination.
  5. Blink a few times to spread the gel evenly across the eye.

If you wear contact lenses, remove them before use and wait at least 15 to 30 minutes before reinserting them.
