What Are Melolin Dressing Pads Used For?

Melolin pads are used for the treatment of “clean” and sutured wounds, as well as minor injuries like abrasions and lacerations. The absorbent layer soaks up excess fluid (exudate) from the wound, while the cushioned structure protects the injury from further trauma or impact.

Who Are Melolin Dressing Pads Suitable For?

Melolin is suitable for all ages, including children and the elderly.

Do not use Melolin Dressing Pads if:

• The individual packaging is damaged or open (as sterility may be compromised)
• You have a known allergy to any of the dressing materials

Speak to a healthcare professional if:

• The wound is deep, bleeding excessively, or shows signs of infection (redness, swelling, or pus)
• The wound does not show signs of healing within a few days
• The injury is a severe burn or a chemical burn

How to Use Melolin Cushioned Dressing Pads

1. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after dressing the wound.
2. Gently clean the wound area with water or sterile saline and pat the surrounding skin dry.
3. Remove the Melolin pad from its sterile wrapper.
4. Apply the shiny side (the perforated film) directly onto the wound.
5. Secure the edges of the pad using adhesive tape or a wrap-around bandage.

The dressing should be changed as often as necessary depending on the amount of fluid produced by the wound.

Possible Side Effects

Melolin is generally well-tolerated; however, rare issues may include:

• Skin irritation from the adhesive tape used to secure the pad
• Maceration (skin softening) if the dressing is left on for too long without being changed

Warnings and Precautions

• Ensure the shiny side is placed against the wound; placing the wrong side down may cause the pad to stick.
• Do not reuse dressing pads; they are single-use only to prevent infection.
• Seek medical advice for wounds that are heavily infected or contain foreign objects.
