Optrex Infected Eye Drops are used to treat acute bacterial conjunctivitis, an infection affecting the front surface of the eye. Symptoms include red eyes, soreness, watering, itching, and sticky discharge.

Who are Optrex Infected Eye Drops Suitable For?

These drops are suitable for adults and children aged 2 years and over.

Do not use Optrex Infected Eye Drops if you:

  • Are allergic to chloramphenicol or any ingredients
  • Have ever had blood problems after using chloramphenicol
  • Have a family history of blood disorders
  • Are wearing contact lenses (do not use lenses during treatment)
  • Have eye pain, vision changes, or symptoms that worsen

Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

How to Use Optrex Infected Eye Drops

  1. Wash your hands before applying the drops.
  2. Gently pull down the lower eyelid.
  3. Apply 1 drop into the affected eye.
  4. Use every 2 hours for the first 48 hours.
  5. Then reduce to every 4 hours for the next 3 days.
  6. Do not use for more than 5 days.

If symptoms do not improve within 48 hours or worsen, seek medical advice.

Possible Side Effects of Optrex Infected Eye Drops

Like all medicines, side effects can occur, although not everyone gets them.

  • Blurred vision after using the drops
  • Mild burning or stinging
  • Irritation of the eye or eyelid
  • Skin irritation around the eyes

  • Unusual tiredness, bruising, or bleeding (signs of blood disorders)
