About Senokot Syrup

Senokot Syrup is a reliable stimulant laxative formulated with natural senna, a plant-based extract used to provide predictable relief from occasional constipation. Unlike bulk-forming laxatives, Senokot Syrup works by gently stimulating the muscles in the bowel to encourage movement and speed up the passage of stools. This “overnight” treatment typically takes 8 to 12 hours to work, helping to get your body back into a natural rhythm while you sleep.

The 500ml bottle provides a generous supply for managing short-term digestive issues and is suitable for adults and children aged 12 years and over.

Medication Form Oral liquid (Syrup)
Used to Treat Short-term, occasional constipation

Who Can Use It Adults, the elderly, and children aged 12 years and over

What Is Senokot Syrup Used For?

Senokot Syrup is used for the short-term relief of occasional or non-persistent constipation. It is an effective solution for those who find tablets difficult to swallow or prefer a liquid format. By stimulating the bowel wall, it helps move waste through the digestive system, making bowel movements more comfortable and easier to pass.

Who Is Senokot Syrup Suitable For?

Senokot is suitable for adults, the elderly, and adolescents over 12 years of age.

Do not use Senokot Syrup if you:

  • Are allergic to sennosides or any of the ingredients (e.g., parabens)
  • Have a blockage or narrowing of the gastrointestinal tract
  • Have appendicitis, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s or Ulcerative Colitis), or severe dehydration
  • Have kidney or heart failure
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding (unless advised by a doctor)

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Have persistent abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting
  • Have a sudden change in bowel habits lasting more than 2 weeks
  • Have already taken a laxative and are still constipated
