Allopurinol Tablets contain the active ingredient allopurinol, a xanthine oxidase inhibitor used to prevent or lower high uric acid levels in the blood. It is designed to treat and prevent conditions caused by a buildup of uric acid, such as gout, gouty arthritis, and kidney stones. By decreasing the amount of uric acid produced by the body, Allopurinol helps prevent the painful joint inflammation associated with gout flare-ups.

Allopurinol Tablets are suitable for adults and are available in two strengths and pack sizes:

• Allopurinol 100mg Tablets – 28 or 56 tablets
• Allopurinol 300mg Tablets – 28 or 56 tablets

What Are Allopurinol Tablets Used For?

Allopurinol Tablets are used to prevent gout attacks and treat conditions caused by excessive uric acid, such as kidney stones. It is also used to lower excess uric acid levels that can occur alongside certain cancer treatments. It works by inhibiting the enzyme responsible for producing uric acid in the body, keeping levels under control.

Who Are Allopurinol Tablets Suitable For?

Allopurinol is suitable for adults who have been prescribed the medication to manage gout or high uric acid levels.

Do not use Allopurinol Tablets if you:

• Are allergic to allopurinol or any listed ingredient
• Are currently experiencing an acute gout attack (unless starting has been advised by your doctor)

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

• Have liver or kidney problems
• Have thyroid disorders
• Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
• Are taking any other medications, especially for high blood pressure, heart conditions, or immune system suppression

How to Use Allopurinol Tablets

1. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
2. Take Allopurinol after a meal to reduce the risk of an upset stomach.
3. Take the dose exactly as prescribed by your doctor (usually once a day).
4. Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day while taking this medication to help flush uric acid from your kidneys.

Do not stop taking Allopurinol abruptly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well, as this can trigger a gout flare-up.

Possible Side Effects of Allopurinol Tablets

Common side effects:

• Skin rash (stop taking the medication immediately and contact a doctor if a rash appears)
• Nausea and vomiting
