Orlos is a weight loss treatment for overweight adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 28 or above. It’s designed to help you lose weight alongside a reduced-calorie, lower-fat diet rather than on its own.
Orlos contains 60mg of orlistat, which works in your digestive system rather than impacting your appetite. As your food is digested, it stops about a quarter of the amount of fat in your meals from being absorbed. That undigested fat then passes out of your body in your stools.
Since Orlos only acts on the fat that’s actually in your meals, it works best as part of a reduced-calorie, lower-fat diet. Unabsorbed fat can cause digestive side effects, so sticking to lower-fat meals is the best way to manage these effects.
Orlos can support weight loss when combined with your diet, helping you lose more than diet alone. For every 2kg (4lb) you lose through dieting, Orlos can help you lose around 1kg (2lb) more.
Orlos is suitable for adults aged 18 and over who are overweight and have a BMI of 28 or above. It isn’t suitable for children or anyone under 18 or during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Don’t take Orlos if you:
Orlos also isn’t recommended if you take acarbose, a medicine for type 2 diabetes.
Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Orlos if you:
The recommended dose for adults is one 60mg capsule three times a day, taken with your three main meals.
Keep your meals well-balanced, lower in fat and reduced in calories, as this helps the capsules work and keeps digestive side effects to a minimum. Try to be more active before you start and while you’re taking Orlos capsules, checking with your doctor first if you haven’t exercised in a while.
Don’t take Orlos for longer than six months. If you haven’t lost weight after taking it for 12 weeks, speak to your doctor or pharmacist, as it may not be the right treatment for you.
Like all medicines, Orlos may cause side effects, though not everyone gets them.
Most are linked to the way it works, as the fat your body doesn’t absorb passes out through your bowel. Keeping to lower-fat meals usually helps keep these to a minimum and they often settle as your body adjusts.

Orlos can also cause changes that show up in blood tests, including small rises in some liver enzymes and effects on blood clotting in people taking warfarin or other blood thinners. Tell whoever takes your blood that you’re using Orlos.
Stop taking Orlos and get medical help straight away if you notice:
If you notice any side effects, including any not listed here, tell your doctor or pharmacist. You can also report side effects directly through the Yellow Card Scheme.

Orlos is orlistat, sold under a brand name at the 60mg strength, so it isn’t a different medicine from unbranded orlistat.
Orlos and Alli are both 60mg orlistat capsules that work in the same way, so there’s very little difference between them. Xenical is orlistat too, but at a higher 120mg strength that a doctor has to prescribe.
There are other alternative weight loss options as well, including appetite-based weight loss medication like Wegovy. No single one is best for everyone, so it’s worth talking through your options with a doctor or pharmacist.
The amount of weight you lose depends on your starting weight and how closely you stick to a reduced-calorie, lower-fat diet.
A realistic goal is to aim for between 5% and 10% of your starting weight, which gives you a good chance of hitting your weight loss goals. Losing it and then keeping it off is really about weight management over time, through lasting changes in how you eat and how active you are, rather than the capsules alone.
Orlos is a Pharmacy (P) medicine, so you can get it without a prescription, though a pharmacist will need to check that it’s suitable for you first. You can buy Orlos online from Click2Pharmacy by completing a short consultation for our pharmacists to review and, once approved, your Orlos weight loss capsules are discreetly delivered to you.
Taking a daily multivitamin is a good idea while you’re on Orlos. Because it blocks some of the fat in your food, it can also reduce the amount of certain vitamins your body absorbs. Taking your multivitamin at bedtime, when there’s no Orlos in your system, gives those vitamins the best chance of being absorbed.
There aren’t foods you have to cut out completely, but Orlos works best as part of a reduced-calorie, lower-fat diet. Try to spread your fat, carbohydrate and protein fairly evenly across your three main meals and go easy on high-fat foods. Meals that are too high in fat don’t make Orlos work any better and they make the digestive side effects more likely.
Exercise isn’t compulsory, but being more active makes a real difference to your weight loss journey and helps you keep the weight off. Regular physical activity, even something gentle like walking, supports what Orlos and your diet are doing. If you haven’t exercised in a while, check with your doctor before starting anything new.
If it’s less than an hour since your last main meal, you can still take the missed capsule. If more than an hour has passed, skip it and take your next capsule with your next main meal as usual. Don’t take two capsules at once to make up for a missed one.
Weight loss with Orlos is meant to be gradual rather than dramatic. A steady pace of about 0.5kg (1lb) a week is the aim and it’s normal for the amount to vary from one week to the next. You might not notice much in the very early days, so give it a fair go alongside your reduced-calorie, lower-fat diet.
Orlos is meant for short-term use and shouldn’t be taken for more than six months at a time. If you’re losing weight steadily and getting on well with it, that’s usually long enough to kick-start lasting changes to your eating and activity. If you feel you need help beyond that, speak with your doctor or pharmacist.
