Xailin Night Lubricating Eye Ointment is a lubricating and preservative-free eye ointment for the relief of night-time dry eye sensations. It’s designed for use at bedtime, forming a protective film across the surface of the eye that acts as a barrier against moisture loss while you sleep.
It helps ease dry eye symptoms such as soreness, dryness and irritation, soothing irritated eyes overnight. These symptoms occur when ocular surface disorders leave your tears either of poor quality or produced in too small a quantity to keep the eye properly moist, making it a useful part of your daily eye care.
The ointment contains white soft paraffin, white mineral oil and lanolin alcohols. Together, these form a transparent, moisture-retaining film on the surface of the eye that provides soothing relief.
Because it’s thicker than eye drops, this eye ointment provides strong overnight comfort and stays put to provide relief throughout the night. That means lasting relief for dry, sore eyes and helps you wake to more comfortable eyes.
If you’d like a lighter option for daytime, you can use Xailin Eye Gel.
This lubricating eye ointment is suitable for all ages and can be used by adults and children. It can also be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so it’s an option for pregnant and breastfeeding women too.
You shouldn’t use it if you’re allergic to lanolin alcohols or any of the other ingredients. It’s also not suitable for use with contact lenses, so remove them before applying. If you’re unsure if it’s right for you, speak to your pharmacist for advice.

Most people use Xailin Night without any problems, but as with most ointments for dry eyes, this eye ointment may cause some effects:
If you notice signs of an allergic reaction, or your symptoms don’t settle, discontinue use and consult your doctor or pharmacist. You can report any suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
Lubricating ingredients
Xailin Night is preservative-free.
You don’t need a prescription for Xailin Night, as it’s a pharmacy medicine. You’ll just answer a few short questions so our pharmacist can check it’s suitable for you before your order is approved. It can be used by adults and children of any age.
Xailin Night is made for night-time use, so applying it just before bed works well. It can briefly blur your vision, which is another reason bedtime is ideal. Don’t drive or use machinery until your sight has cleared.
It starts working soon after you apply it, forming a moisture-retaining film across the eye. Because it’s thicker than drops, the soothing effect tends to last through the night. Once you’ve opened the tube, use it within 60 days.
It’s made specifically for dry-eye sensations, easing soreness, irritation and that gritty feeling. It works by forming a barrier that helps protect the eye against moisture loss overnight. That makes it well-suited to people whose tears are of poor quality or too few to keep the eye moist.
Xailin Night has no added preservatives. The film is composed of white soft paraffin, white mineral oil, and lanolin alcohols. Being preservative-free can make it gentler for regular use and for more sensitive eyes.
Xailin Night can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the use of Xailin Night at this time, speak to your doctor, pharmacist or optician first.
You can, but leave at least 30 minutes between Xailin Night and any other eye drops or ointments. As it’s thick, applying it last at bedtime usually works best. Speak to your pharmacist if you’re unsure about how to fit it into your routine.
A brief period of blurred vision immediately after applying is normal. Wait until your sight is fully clear before driving or using machinery. If the blurring lingers or your eye symptoms persist, stop using it and speak to your doctor, pharmacist or optician.
